This is lighter than I feared

Usually with wheels rather than just a frame and fork?!
-
• #27954
Those forks will compress a lot more, no? Which means it'll fit easy peasy.

Scott got cleaned and the missus has started heli taping it ready for bags.
The Stanton 27.2 dropper works but spent all day slipping so that's fucking annoying (Mechanics AQA is on it). The RD is in desperate need of a clutch service and hanger straightening too. So, given how annoyed I am with the Stanton parts I think it's time to properly sort out the Scott for loaded riding. Maybe I'll use it for El Piri if the Crux isn't done. -

It’s at zero PSI in both main and ramp chamber. I could squish it with a strap but it fits now, so I can see why that’s needed.
-
• #27957
Yeah, I'd have strapped them down, if anything just to move the steerer away from the top of the bag so I could jam more padding in or whatever. Mine would've been in a box though, I don't have a case/bag for my MTB.

New Stooge just dropped: http://stoogecycles.co.uk/product/dirt-tracker/
Andy's bikes always seem to fall into the "looks fun/rad, but cannot justify" category for me.
-
• #27959
I can't stand the look of those forks so they're always in the 'rather you than me' category.

Visa obtained, hotel booked, airport taxi booked, travel insurance purchased, what have I forgotten?

A short prayer to St Christopher?

You just posted that focus, and then start chatting about aesthetics? Ha!
(Those forks work AND look good I'll let you know!) -
• #27963
The Focus was half built by someone on here back in 2011 or so and I bought it and finished it with old parts for something to ride around in Poland when I was there.
So you're comparing a Parts Bin Special with a new bike.
It should be noted that most of my bikes are fucking ugly (func>form) so I give zero shits about calling out what I think is ugly and one of my fugliness metrics is curves. Old ass looking curved forks belong in the 1930s or something. dealwithit.gif

So curvy old school on a bike that has no bounce but goes fast offroad somehow makes sense?
I don't have mine because I am that into the old school looks, but because I wanted fun offroad without high-tech stuff that breaks. And stooge is somehow the best offering in that niche segment.I like that focus, it's proper no bullshit cross bike, fond memories of the guy that stopped when I crashed, he had one like that. But it's not beautiful.

Nope, it's functional (just about).
I don't mind full rigid MTBs (I've owned a lot) I just don't like most 'throwbacks', retro stuff, etc.
Just give me round steel tubes welded to each other in a double diamond OR give me a wind-tunnel tested, absolute proprietary, pain in the ass to build, you'll never find spares for it, kill or be killed machine.

there about 5 threads on this on singletrack but they all contain broken links and smart arsery: where can I, in 2024, in brexit britain, buy a ‘plus’ crown race for 1.5 forks to raise /lengthen my a-c, or are there spacers out there I can buy for my current crown race? Don’t tell me to pump my front tyre up!
-
• #27967
Have you considered adding air to your front tyre?
-
• #27968
How much do you need to raise it by? And why?
-
• #27969
Any spacer you put under the crown would likely mean the race doesn't sit on the taper properly
-
• #27970
I thought about scrambler geometry with normal frame/no funny tubes plus segmented forks.
But I don't think that exists unless boutique or one off, and when I bought mine it was definitely on the affordable side of weird steel frames. -
• #27972
exactly, except it’s £50.
-
• #27973
What do you use your Stooge for? I'm really tempted by a SS for duding around the woods.
-
• #27974
I’m almost definitely going to be selling a Stooge mk5 soon.
-
• #27975
I guess you could call it duding in the woods.
Anything full suss felt like to much bike for what's on offer in Berlin, no trail here takes more than 3 minutes...
Take it to Grunewald, ride the trails there, took it to a non uplift bike park thing and had fun, sometimes loops that I might also ride on my 650b tourer.
It's a scrambler on 29x2.6 mezcals so it's not that slow on tarmac and should be fun to go touring on.
Just!
