I've got two of these - DA9000 on the Tarmac and Ultegra on the Stealth in Oz.
Good luck getting that inspected. I'm not likely to bother - it's like if they haven't broken by now why fuck around with inspection. If they look like they're going to fail, take them off. -

According to Shimano the replacement will be a special version with a different cosmetic finish? Are they getting rid of all their factory blemishes?
I guess coming up with thousands of cranksets isn’t easy. -

I haven't checked my 6800 cranks yet but i'm really hoping they don't need replacing as I think the new one doesn't look as good!

is it possible to put r8000 (11sp) chainrings on a r8100 crankset? just looking at options for new cranks and potentially putting a PM on my summer bike
additionally - it is possible to run 11sp chain on the 12sp rings yes?

My replacement shimano ultegra chainset arrived to replace the delaminated one - but they replaced a compact with a mid compact. So it's gone back to be replaced. Again...

Context … partner is running 38x11-42 and would benefit from a lower gear for a big trip.
Anyone happily running Rival 1 hydro with a Shimano 11-46 cassette on a long cage rd?
The other alternative (and official) path to lower gearing looks like a 10-42 with a smaller front ring. This looks like a lot more money, needing the XD driver, cassette and chainring but do want the lowest risk setup.

I could sell you a Rotor 3D24 crankset with DM chainring, I think its a 36 but will confirm once I am in the shed.

Trying to maintain a reasonable top end (smaller chainring with the 10t) for any road descents but you are right, slapping on a 34 or 36 and calling it a day will get the job done… and thinking about it, I’ll be on a mtb with a 32x10 top end.

I've set up 2 bikes for friends like that - works completely fine, chain length needs to be fairly on point though. (I myself run an 11-42 with a medium cage rival rd, that's a bit sketchier)

Ratio have created an upgrade kit for SRAM 11 speed shifters to convert them to 12 speed, compatible with Shimano 12s cassettes. Could be a very affordable option for those looking for the range and smaller jumps of 12s without having to ditch their old group. Especially as 11 speed parts eventually become more expensive or difficult to source, granted not the case at the moment

I've been thinking about this a lot recently. My gravel bike is pretty hefty and even a kg matters when I'm travelling abroad with it, so I've been looking at the last gen Red 22 mechanical options (which I have on my best road bike and is also my favorite group ever for various reasons).
I have a 9-42 ethirteen 11sp cassette that I was thinking of putting with a 38 at the front with a Force 1 derailleur - this would give a good range for most road and gravel use. Alternatively, the ratio kit would allow 12sp, but would involve buying a new cassette and I've always been wary of these shift adapters (had fails with a jtec some years ago).
My main decision is red 22 hrd vs cable. I've got some Juintechs already, and hrd Red 22 shifters are also pretty pricey and heavier, whereas cable can be bought for fairly cheap these days. Might also give an excuse for daft Klampers/Growtacs. I've only recenly moved to hydro Ultegra from the Juintechs and I'm underwhelmed by the performance increase and annoyed at the bleeding/hassle when changing bars etc.

I've always been wary of these shift adapters (had fails with a jtec some years ago).
This is a different kind of system. It changes the internal cable pull using the ratchet inside the shifter, rather than using some kind of pulley to increase travel. Mechanically, it should be as robust and reliable as 11 speed SRAM (assuming they've used the correct materials etc.)

The only negative I've come across noted that the adjustment more frequently went out and needed fiddling, and the cable and housing needed to be more carefully selected and installed. Presumably because of the smaller amount of cable being pulled, misadjustements were magnified.
All that said, I'm still interested in trying it to get greater range. On an 11sp 40x11-42 I get nearly enough range for most of my riding, but I'd like a bit more top end and low end. Something like 42x11-50 12 sp could get accomplish that while still giving reasonable steps for more comfortable riding in a group.

I've contemplated the ratio kit in the past a few times. The earlier ratchets looked a bit rough on the edges (cast, forged 3D printed?) which I assume could be a downside for component more fine than the OEM. Newer ones look pretty smooth though.
If I were still interested in mechanical sram 12s on road/gravel, I'd probably just get the new Apex. Yes it costs, but I believe they addressed the issue with Master cylinders failing prematurely on the older, Hydro/Double-tap shifters.
Still think this is a great bit of kit though.
