Cheers @TooTallTim and @PhilDAS, I've ordered one of the epic bleed kits

I’ve been using the alix kit for years and mostly it is fine. Nevertheless, last year I‘ve bought the og sram kit and it really speeds things up, cause the hoses on syringes are actually sealing, but mainly that the adaptors’ head can be turned, so that you can screw it in the caliper without the odd job of rotating the whole syringe which usually is pretty messy itself.
All in all, if magura and shimano, the alix is allright, for sram I would go for their, or some other, better, kit -

I imagine that might be quite useful if you're bleeding multiple brakes a day. I've never had an issue with seals on the Epic ones, they're only push fit and screwed on. The pressure you're applying isn't that much to require super tight sealing. I've done caliper-up bleeds on Hope brakes just pushing a piece of tubing onto the bleed nipple, no leaks.

Does anyone know where I discussed brakes and offered red rubber grease

Thank you, I found it before I had my shower.
Wanted to talk about hope brakes mentioning 'grease' leaking being normal.

No one?

Wanted to talk about hope brakes mentioning 'grease' leaking being normal.
My comment on that was based on getting some brakes back from a service by Hope. They lubed the pistons with Hunters, and when I pulled the brake, you could see a very small amount of lube seeping from around the piston where it entered the caliper. It pulled back in via capillary action as soon as let off the lever a bit. Asked Hope, they said that's normal. It's this side of the seal, nothing is leaking past the seal.
But also, as noted by others, the bottle of Hunters leaks like fuck on it's own on a shelf, and I have no idea why

I have some SRAM force 22 shifters & brakes. The hoses are a bit too short on refitting to a different frame.
They're also mad expensive. 50 quid each?! They've got the silly angled banjo fitting on the shifter end and other than jagwire, I don't think there's any suitable alternatives except Sram. My question is that it looks like the lever end seals with only an O ring so does it sound reasonable that I could reuse the rear hose on the front by just shortening it and fitting a new olive and barb on the caliper end? That way I only need to buy one new hose. -

That's what I'd do.

Yeah exactly this.
It’s what I’ve done in the past. The official sram ones are stupid expensive at rrp, but I think that cheaper hoses with the proper compatible banjo started to appear on AliX in recent years.
I’ll try find some and link to them

To answer your question, I'd say yes.
Tho advice given to me when cutting braided brake lines for motorbikes was to wrap the area you are going to cut with masking tape as it stops the outer edges becoming frayed.
Aren't they just normal hydraulic hoses? As SRAM use dot 5.1 brake fluid Just got a three line for a motor bike made and delivered with stainless steel ends for £66 so 50 feels steep. Will give feed back on the motorbike thread.
Actually just brought some sram front and rear flat bar hydraulic brakes for £40 or £20 each from tredz. Could this be a cheap source of hose for you?https://www.tredz.co.uk/.SRAM-Level-Disc-Brake_91926.htm
Also maybe give think automotive a call, they have been my first port of call for strange stuff on motorbikes and cars.

I do have some spare hose but the problem is the proprietary banjo that comes crimped on new hoses. Not something you can fit on a length of new hose yourself easily.
-
• #8715
The correct compatible banjo connectors can be bought on AliX
Get a couple meters of cheap hose on alix or amazon and add the alix Banjo.

Those are for the caliper, my brakes have a straight fitting. It's the lever end I'm on about. Under the reservoir cover, I believe it's a not quite 90 degree banjo fitting, proprietary.

Does anyone other than SRAM make the odd bevelled banjo that goes at the lever end of the hose? I haven't found any but I live in hope.
-
• #8718
This is the only one I've found. Not just a banjo but the whole hose only
-
• #8719
Ah shit sorry, I should have read the post properly! I see what you mean now.
You can do what you say and cut the rear hose and re-use it.
You could then spend the £31 on the proper hose kit for the rear.
But the cheaper option would be buying the banjo connector for a fiver on aliX and re-use the lever end banjo no?
Edit - I've realised the lever end banjo might be crimped? Is it def crimped or isn't it threaded?
-
• #8720
It's not removable from the short front hose, factory crimped on
-
• #8721
aye sorry I edited the post when I realised :(

Might be worth while to speak to think automotive or if you have a hydraulic specialist near by. Have had automotive hydraulic hoses that the old crimped end was removed and the fitting reused. This was on an oil feed to a turbo. The replacement line was tested on a pressure test kit to what ever brake and hydraulic lines.
Or if they can extend the lines, once again have had this sort of stuff done for joining up two bandit 6 oil rads, as the fittings on the radiators are bolt on the rad and not sold separately. The temp set up on the car worked so well the system stayed like that.

TRp makes a Hose Coupler
https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=105419You could change olive and insert to sram (at your own risk...)

Ah yeah nice, I was wondering whether anyone made a double sided threaded connector for exactly that. I'd have to see if there's any in the UK, otherwise it won't be much cheaper than buying a single extra hose which would be preferable all else equal, as it's one fewer potential leak points

Just gonna leave this here. Thanks @amey for the correction lol.

Hmmm a SRAM version of that coupler would've spared some headache.
Been using an Epic bleed kit for about 8 years across multiple brakes with no issues, although the pinch clamps have finally creased the tubes enough now that they're ready to be replaced.
I've taken a punt on an Aliexpress bleed kit which is essentially a copy of the Sram Pro one, but was £15, not £100. Can report back when it arrives
