  • I have whatever I could find in long enough (jagwire) on the front of my longjohn.
I think it does what you describe.

  • As if by chance, a full bounce frame has come available to me for a pretty good price and I'm tempted....

Would there be any interest for my HT frame here? XL/L waltly ti built for someone other than me, geo attached.

  • Got these on today. I'm a bit sad that I don't have red forks anymore, but they do look mean as heck. I'll get the Smashpot into these when the weather isn't so shit so I can do it outside, but just bouncing on these a few times, I remembered why I never got on with air sprung suspension. All the progression, please...

  • I've helicopter taped the lowers too, and it looks so bad I think I'd rather just scratch them. Absolutely nothing to do with my patience or skills with a hairdryer

  • The Lyriks that you’re rebuilding, were they used with the smash pot?

  • Is there much of a market for proper tubeless 26" disc wheels these days?

The Voodoo 26er I have in Poland would be much better if it wasn't running tubes and the rims have been hand-drilled for Schrader tubes so I was thinking it'd be easier to swap the wheels to tubeless. Then I'd have the Tripster and a TLd 26er for the missus to ride.

Anything to look for or just trawl ebay?

Oh, I presume the MTB is QR not thru-axle... yep...

That's two of @el_presidente bikes I owned? Ha!

Oh and I want to swap the suspension fork for rigid because I ain't got time for bouncing.

  • Yep, whilst it's suggested that you may not be able to convert back, I've yet to hear of anyone that hasn't been able to. I'll fully check the anodising inside the leg once it's out. With all that in mind, I'll be selling them at a very reasonable price - with or without airspring

  • vaguely thinking of selling my On-One Scandal if you want to go for the hatrick?

  • Not really. I'm trying to make the most with what I've got. The missus doesn't really ride anything gnarly so turning the Voodoo into a gravel bike is probably good enough to get us out on some trails there. Now she has the Bokeh, I'm going to 'retire' her carbon roadie and my Tarmac there too I reckon. More chance of them being used there than Oz.

  • Soz I wasn’t trying to call you out, I’m tentatively interested in them and I’d be using them with my smashpot.
Good to know that they can go back to airspring, I’d probably be selling on my 27.5 lyriks minus smashpot.
What length is the steerer and what offset are they?

  • Ha, nah I didn't think you were, all good! Steerer is long, maybe 205ish? Can measure tomorrow. 42mm offset

  • Long steerer is definitely desirable. I’m not actually sure which offset will be optimal since I don’t have the frame for the forks yet… I’ll pm

  • Assuming I could find something that would fit in the head tube of the bike, if I was going to swap an old sus fork off a 26er for a rigid fork, is there any reason why I wouldn't get a 29er fork with a thru axle? Then I could use my 'not doing anything' 29er wheel I swapped for a dynamo wheel on the 26er.

Is it going to be impossible to find a 29er fork that would actually fit in the Voodoo?

There's loads of cheapass BUCKLOS and TOOSEEK forks on ebay. Tricky part would probably be finding out the bike's dimensions, given it's in another country.

Hmm, brakes another issue. Post mount vs. whateverthefuckmount

  • 29 fork will be too long? Add the big wheel and it's constant uphill, or am I missing something?

  • 29” fork + 26” wheel might put the headtube where it’s supposed to be, 29” fork and wheel might be a bit high.

Brakes would only be an issue if the current caliper is IS mount no? They’re much more likely to be post mount with an is adapter and so just omit the adapter or might need a post-post +20mm adapter?

  • 29” fork + 26” wheel might put the headtube where it’s supposed to be, 29” fork and wheel might be a bit high.

So a 24" fork and 29" wheel would be perfect...

  • So a 24" fork and 29" wheel would be perfect...

Ah, I see you’re an engineer.

  • Ah, I see you’re an engineer.

Great, now I'm qualified to comment on Pinkbike articles!

  • So I recently got this 26er with a suspension corrected rigid fork from Salsa for my daughter. Out of interest I then compared that to the unicrown fork for my Soma wolverine, and it is quite similar. Maybe sits a smidge higher. But yes, quite similar.

The axle to crown measurement should give you a hint.

  • those are manitou R7’s - I think they’re pretty light, high quality forks, I’d keep them and use the lockout, then get some light wheels and tyres
edit, in fact why not run 650b gravel wheels

  • MTB position is only relevant to those fucking weirdos that think it matters. Which is like 0.01% of people actually riding mtb. Everyone else just #dealswithit

    It's only constant uphill until it's a downhill... I know... #mindblown

  • You're asking me questions like I know...

I just need someone to go "oh Voodoo Bantu 26er just like in the pics you posted? Yeah I fitted a 29er fork and wheel and it felt a bit weird but once some lube was applied it was much nicer" yada yada

  • "Manitou R7 100mm. With adjustable rebound / lockout."

But also, they don't hold air, so they're fucking useless unless I service them and that ain't happening. I'm not sure the lockout works which is why I wanted to burn them.

"why not run 650b gravel wheels"

Because they'll be on the 650b gravel bike and the only "spare" wheel I have is the 29er.

  • Get a local bike shop to service the fork and put gravel tyres on it? Probably the easiest course.

  • There is no local bike shop and I'm not sure the local lawnmower retailer with his collection of vintage bike pumps is up for the job.

When I first found it was not holding air, I did look around for a service kit for it. Probably still in Amazon wish list. I just don't see the point of a sus fork on a bike that definitely won't be ridden on anything needing suspension.
