Funnily enough I too drove a Golf R estate and just went nah, same but different. I see that whole EA888 VAG platform as ‘fast cars you can give to your mum (and know she is safe)’. Fast, capable, but - sorry owners - uninspiring.
Had I not have had the M140i I think I’d be different in my opinion.
Can’t believe how much the M2 have dropped though, they’re only a few £k off what I bought my M140i for. Now add in the good stuff, LSD etc. they’re actually compatible cost wise to a sorted M140i, but a better performance car all round. Insurance is comically cheaper than my S3 and the V60 - despite a write off earlier in the year.
Seems a no brainer for me. Just begs the question; do I hold my nerve and hope for further price drops or jump in now and lap up the M goodness.
Interesting this. Because I'm currently perusing M2 BMWs...
I cannot find anything else that has the drama and character that I had with my M140i. I missed the 3.0 for the duration of my S3 ownership (hence EA888 comparison) and my V60 Polestar experience is void and still raw.
Wicked 335i by the way!
