is there some sort of car-sales ombudsman that this goes to or do you take it up with credit card?

It's an Otto, Ashley! I still haven't got a Manuel licence. š¤£
I was also looking at Golfs because they're so bloody cheap over here but I always worry I'm gonna buy a lemon. That's true with any motor, obvs.
I'm gonna test drive both of them tomorrow, I'm ready to drop some cash. šø

I had a later one (SG9) 2.5 XT which I loved, it was a great car for the family and lugging stuff around, even better when I got it remapped. It was brisk, I think even stock it was meant to do 0-60 in 5. something and the map made a huge difference esp torque/lower down. Didnāt handle like a sports car, it runs a lot of clearance and I didnāt mess with the suspension, just enjoyed it for what it was. There was a recall for the front wishbones which rusted from the inside and failed. I was aware of it and checked it had been done, unfortunately didnāt stop the replacement also failing and throwing me off the road and writing it off, so quite a sad end to that one š¢

I imagine there'll be a fair bit of body roll (which I'm already used to with the XV), like you say, it isn't a sports car. But it is a very pretty 'does everything' car. A bigger boot will be a boon for sure, the XV's boot is tiny.
And STi badge. š¤©

Can't lie, STI is a drawcard. Csb warning, one of the dad's at my son's daycare just randomly bought a bug eye WRX STI, in blue with gold wheels. Reckons it's the best case evah.
Just check the fozz is a genuine STI, not just just a badge.

There are so many nice ones out here, didn't really see them back in the UK. They're both legit from what I can see, STi logos fucking everywhere! š

Ah yes, genuine. Look for the tiny laser etched STi logo around the speedo bezel....
There's loads in aus, especially qld. A lot of the grey imports go there.

Refund achieved on the car.
Caveat; I need to drive their hire car back to bloody Leeds and then make the 250 mile journey back sans car. Bullshit, but glad to be rid of this dealership and car.

Ā£550 for my shitty 2001 punto to pass itās MOTā¦ Iām not going to get anything worth having for <Ā£2k though am I?
-
• #76536
I got lucky and just picked up a 2010 Fiesta Titanium trim for Ā£2k, but assuming the Ā£550 includes labour and some hefty parts, I'd say that's reasonable for another year of motoring.

what has happened?

Re read the Volvo polestar saga.... basically car bought from dealer, car had faults from the drive home and months for the car to be repaired.

Congrats and the car hunt is on.
How about a nice 2010 Kia Picanto.....just to see how much Kias have improved. ;)
Still say an s type or the supercharged xjr both for the rear wheel drive drifting fun. Or an xfr as they are also supercharged. Both the xj and xf have superchargers that sound nice.
Merc supercharger have no sound, so not worth it. Why have a supercharger if you can't hear it

Better than another...tho I was offered an early Punto for less than that.... With no MOT and not used for 5 years

I bought a 2009 Mazda 2 with 80k miles recently for 1850. It had some minor issues that I knew about that I needed to fix, but I'd say the car still only owes me a shade over 2 grand. It does look like used car prices are getting slightly more reasonable.

• #76542
Yeah - 2x tyres, whole new exhaust and cleaning out washer system. Iāve not spent more than fuel and oil/filters on it in 3 years so itās not so bad, just I doubt itās worth Ā£550 after the work!
-
• #76543
You ain't seen second hand car prices.
2 tyres and exhaust are wear and tear imo.
-
• #76544
@dogsballs totally put me off the purchase this morning. š I'm gonna listen to him and stick to what I've got. The FiL Merc could very well happen in the near future anyway.
-
• #76545
It's worth more than 550 to you though, as you know you've a good reliable car, in now good condition. Stick.

• #76546
Sounds like a good result really. Just take a decent book for the train

Any recommendations for a jump pack from Amazon that needs to be delivered by Monday with prime
Thank you

You do what I did - scrap a diesel Espace and then use the TfL cheque to part-fund the 3.5 litre petrol version (which is ULEZ exempt). Talk about perverse incentivesā¦

Not specifically car appreciation but I am constantly having shit foot pumps break. Is there an equivalent of a lezyne floor pump which is a car foot pump?
-
• #76550
Can you not use your posh cycle pump?
It's Manuel right?
I've often wanted a Forester but recently drove a GT... Which was basically a Forester bodied WRX like this STI. Didn't love it. Not a sports car, not an off-road car really and not comfortable. I am getting pretty damn old though so firm suspension bugs the hell outta me.
I know golf is boring but I reckon this would drive a hell of a lot better than the subie
