That's not a bad idea actually, not something I'd thought about! I have no idea if that wall is structural but worth finding out. My only concern with adding a utility is that it seems like it would take a fair bit of space from the already fairly small kitchen. Whilst it'd be nice to have the washing machine etc tucked away somewhere, any utility room that would fit in the space would be tiny and would only really be able to fit a washing machine/drier and not much else. I'm sort of thinking that just spending the extra on a quiet washing machine and having it hidden in a cabinet where the sink is currently might lead to less dead space.
We've had a quick look on Rightmove but houses seem to turn over fairly slowly on that road for some reason. It's quite an old demographic and a lot of people seem to have been there since before Rightmove was even a thing!

I found looking at other similar houses on rightmove really helpful for ideas. Find a similar street if there aren't any on yours. Our close has very little recent turnover, but I found another one that was identical. Also the planning portal.
Idk if you've noticed, but quite a few people now put free standing units with cupboards built around, rather than having an integrated unit. If you want any type of hiding or integrating to your appliances I would definitely look at that. We need to replace an integrated washing machine and recently also replaced an integrated dishwasher. Less choice. More expensive. I assume the new washing machine will rattle the cabinets just as much as the old one too.

Theresa chance that was a corridor originally. The horizontal green wall could be a partition?

That's a top tip, thanks. Hiding an appliance in a big cupboard, rather than totally integrating it seems pretty smart.

Do you need different size units/machine to do this?

So, the latest on the neighbours overheight extension, it seems to have come down in height quite quickly with some Lewisham planning department involvement 🤣
I'm still measuring it as too tall so they may need to revise the height again.
They've also had a visit from environmental health after filling our house with brick dust for 4 straight days. Don't think they give a shit.
Employ professionals people and make sure you properly engage with your neighbours. -

I think our living room is finally there or thereabouts - having added some lighting and new silent gliss curtain
I think I want to replace the Anglepoise wall lights but that can wait until the new year.

Wonderful. Where are you going with the lighting? Original BTC same but different sort of thing?
We're almost three years in the new house, everything that was worn when we moved in is now approaching knackered. 2024 for sorting shit out 🤞

Potence lamp was added a while ago but only just got the shade for it. Akari lamp purchased last week means there is now 5 light sources in the room. To replace the Anglepoise am tempted by glo-ball but worried that they will be a distraction when watching TV...alternative would be something like the Santa Cole wall lights we have in the other room.
I really like the curve of the curtain now and the softness of the light - wasn't cheap but I think it's worked well. Have also relatively well managed to keep the room in nice order...

I don't think geo-ball is the answer. Full wall of curtain is so good though, a really good bit of block textural contrast and yeah the light play is fantastic.

This is good to hear. Our pals neighbours totally took the piss with their work but said pals were too soft to do anything about it.

Tbh I wouldn’t expect it to last that long. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2.8 year old trying to sweep the floor while I was on a call yesterday, knocking the Flos floorstanders every sweep.

Where do I go to buy a bath? Nothing fancy
Where do I got to buy a new shower? Nothing fancy
Is it the likes of Victorian Plumbing or are there better options?

Work on turning a bedroom into bathroom is about to start, so gotta decide on the layout sharpish. Any comments on the proposed plan below?

@chrisbmx116 will be livid you're proposing a toilet in front of a door...
-
• #8597
Yeah don’t do that
-
• #8598
Think that makes sense. I wouldn’t worry too much about the toilet visibility, it’s not 1895, doubt anyone will faint at the sight.
I love our window-into-shower so you could do that.

How will you get into the shower?
If there's a door rather than it being open-ended, will you easily get in next to the bath or will it be a bit of a shimmy?

How come?
You could check rightmove for other houses on your road with the same footprint/layout and see if anyone’s done anything interesting?
Any idea whether the green walls are structural or not? Could be useful to take out these bits on the right to square up the room.
Then for loo potential - worth also thinking about turning that whole side into a utility of sorts, chuck a washing machine in there too? When we got the keys to our place the downstairs loo was right at the back here next to the window, which you could do to then use the understairs part as storage? (he says, having moved said loo under the stairs…)
Ikea or DIY kicthens’ online planners also a good shout for playinf about with cabinet/worktop layouts too.
