Winter Road Bikes

Reader’s. I flex the hell out of it out of the saddle but nevertheless I’m kinda thrilled with it other than the need for a beefier rear skewer and a somewhat terrifying lack of stopping power on descents. Is there a forum-approved wet-weather brake pad that’ll be an upgrade over these stock 105s?

Swisstop blue BXP’s ( ? ) are best-ish for aluminium rims. (Possibly !)

Working on fender options for this one. Likely not able to handle 28s with fenders under the seat stay bridge/caliper, but should have room with 25s. I think the PDW will be my first choice, but are there any others that I should consider when small clearance is a consideration? Updates eventually.

Definitely PDWs IME. Though I did get a pair of these to put on my fixie which can be had cheaply on eBay, play nicely with super-tight clearances and are surprisingly not-shit for the money.

is a 25mm internal width (essentially a gravel wheel) TOO wide for winter road bike use? could let me run some bigger tyres on my strael :-) thinking up to 32c with guards would come up quite nice

Very tempted to finish this off with the full dura ace group.

But then when does this become too nice for winter/pub duties

Here is mine again with the new Straight Cut bag fitted on a wet and cold DIY yesterday. It’s nice having mudguards fitted when you’re riding around in the rain for hours.

Are you going to Dollywood?

Discovered I could snap it into place here and do away with the little velcro I was using to lash it to the top tube. Works fine it seems.

I avoided going to Dollywood for the first 13ish years that I lived here. Now we have kids and they love it. Fun once or twice per year.

I only ever made it to Pigeon Forge once. Didn't make it to Dollywood.

Pigeon Forge is an interesting place. Super busy in the warm months, but easy access to the national park from there. I will sometimes approach that area from the other side(through the mountains) to steer clear of that awful road full of attractions and tourist shops.

Back to bike talk, beautiful riding just outside of town there, and up in the mountains. Quiet country roads with rolling hills, curvy wooded mountain roads with roller coaster decents, etc.

When I lived in Nashville, I couldn't understand people riding bikes in Tennessee. I mean, it's beautiful etc etc, but it wasn't easy riding a bike in and around the city (for me, at the time). Which I think ultimately put me off the idea of riding a bike outside of the area I lived. Having done more cycling now, I do regret not doing any.
