  • Need a new car, so looking at insurance options. The lowest is one which requires you to share driving data analytics. Normally I'd pass, but it's £130 cheaper p.a than the cheapest non-data policy 😢

Is this a real pain to use? I don't always have the phone on me, I don't always have great signal where I am and my phone's battery isn't great at the best of times...

  • I used to have one of these with bymiles and it was fine. It worked on a dongle plugged into the car and only used the milage.

When I came to renew there was one where you had to share analytics with admiral or Hastings or someone that was a lot cheaper.

Reviews were absolutely terrible though. Phone had to be on with Bluetooth on for every journey. Things like the sat nav on your phone or someone else using your phone would impact your score (this was a concern for me) as would anything other than perfect, by some unknown measures, driving.

The real deal breaker for me though was lots of people complaining they had it for a couple of months and then had their insurance terminated. I've no doubt plenty of them were shit drivers but I didn't want to risk that hassle.

  • Used the Admiral car dongle few years back, no complaints (it didn't have a phone/bt/sync requirement) and they wanted the dongle back after a few (maybe 4?) months of data.
