forum-approved canti brakes
The forum can speak for itself but the #tester_approved solution is to throw your cantilevers in the sea and get Shimano 90mm V brakes

Noted, and appreciated. Not against mini Vs, would need to figure out the cable routing at the rear and whether I'd have enough clearance with the chonky square profile SKS guards
I've also been really happy with the cantis on my partner's bike and my muddy fox so I'm not convinced that all cantis are bad

Is there any sense in swapping these for a new set of Tektro CR710
Probably not, you would still have the 'low profile canti' issue of the modulation being extremely sensitive to set up, that's inherent in the geometry. CR720 is equally cheap, and fixes the geometry problem, although wide cantis can introduce clearance problems you didn't have before.
I'd also sack off the headset mounted hanger and get a fork crown stop to stiffen the resolve of the front brake, and of course try different pad compounds. To the extent that I ever had a cantilever set up could tolerate, it was with road (55mm) pads, but the Kool Stop H6 shoes are as much as new brakes so that's probably not a path you want to go down -

Well, finished my Wheeler project today, it’s not a real V1 but will do for now.. (I’m working on a Record carbon/ti 10 speed version, with decent wheelset etc)
8,8kg as it, ride smooth, quite happy

That stem and those forks. Banging.

Absolutement fantastique 👌

That's good to know. My muddy fox has those wide cantis and I've found them the easiest to set up. CR720s seem to be out of stock every where but will keep my eyes peeled. Cheers!

great work, needs a nice TT pump though, that peg looks sad empty!

Wow that's sublime. Great use of that stem, couldn't think of a better match. Fork is Time, right? Next up is zipp 202's :D

Hell yeah, looks great.
What are the forks? Are they steel? They look too skinny to be carbon.
I'm in the process of similarly greying up my ti bike, with a quill and a straight bladed chrome Columbus Max fork that I'm getting built and hope to have in the next month. Going to fit with a Campag triple and some silver Chorus hubs and silver Archetype rims, and your build has convinced me leaning into the full grey look will look great.
I've got the saddle and pedals but ti looking tape is so far proving more difficult to find than I expected, as I've mentioned on the bar tape thread.

Thanks folks, took some time to find the right combo fork/stem/headset as I was looking for something visually slick..
@spotter indeed ! Not many Ti frame pomp on the market tough..
@damskodonny I have to admit that stem is a great match with the frame, for the seatpost a Record Ti could probably do better..
About the fork, got it NOS few years ago from a bike shop owner shutting down his activity, it was waiting for the right build, no branding but full carbon and great finish..
Zipp 202 would looks ace but certainly out of pocket, got some NOS Mavic Open Ceramic 28 holes waiting for a pair of hub (Record 10s but hard to find in 28, or probably Hope RS4 silver)
@user75204 great project, any picture..?
IMO you should go for Ahead steerer, clearly improve front rigidity and allow to save weight..You’re looking for a titanium aspect saddle and tape ?

No build pics yet as its in a pile of bits stage, builder says fork should be assembled by the end of the week and then its off to get chromed, but that's the main thing I'm waiting for. I've got everything else apart from the bar tape. I'll post some pics when it all starts going together.
Frame is my old 96 Merckx EX, and despite being maybe heavier and flexier I'll be using a quill and avoiding an aheadset. I much prefer the look of a quill and already have a gunmetal 3t stem and bars that are a great match for the ti, and also have a Campag ti seatpost which matches perfectly too.
Tho yours is probs the best looking ahead I've seen on a ti bike :)
And wow so the fork is carbon! I thought it looked way too skinny for that, flexy?

indeed ! Not many Ti frame pumps on the market tough...
I think a black pump would match the forks perfectlly either a Zefal HPX or a Silca Impero

Much joy in the Gazelle.

Nice bike.
Funny that the beone is the one with the bar end shifters -
• #131670
Any number is okay but the Gazelle would also make a nice sscx/tracklocross thing with the horizontal dropouts.

No that's what I call a build vid. The way he installs the RD is very satisfying.

Have a steel frame with a small dent I’m looking to fill.
Anybody done this at home in good DIY spirit??
Advice appreciated!
