Thanks all. The need was more pressing that I initially thought, so I had to visit a local shop today. After some advice, I bought an Mignon Filtro Pro instead of an Opus. Primarily due to the availability of spare parts.
Not a manual grinder, as my wife was thinking of desk mounted hand grinders and I was thinking in a different direction which was not what she would like to use day to day.

Just picked up a Clever Dripper, any top tips?
What's the standard procedure for cleaning? So far I've just been brushing and rinsing it in the sink. Multiple disassemblies/reassemblies per day probably won't be good for it's longevity.
Also took a few attempts to get rid of the muscle memory of popping the coffee in first after 1000s of V60s.

Just a rinse and occasional dunk in soapy water. Never bothered disassembling mine in the few years I’ve had it.

Price 😎?

Same as Matt - always rinse and very occasional scrub.
Deffo took me a few goes to break the grounds in first v60 habit too! Never looked back tho. GOAT brewer imo.

Who roasts a good decaf bean for espresso?
In use YellowBourbon at the moment, and the puck gets really soggy when I pull a shot, and they end up bitter.

I'm away for the week without an ability to realistically drink anything other than instant. What's the best (least bad) readily-available option??
-
• #25113
Are you already away or can you order something to take with you?
If the former then I like the plastic (sorry) one cup drip filters you can buy in most supermarkets.
If the latter, these from Ngopi are great:

Already away so yeah basically supermarket options only. Am in Bristol though so if there are any speciality coffee places locally that dare to stock specialty instant that would be possible.

Not used for espresso myself but I reckon the sugar cane processed stuff would be worth a try.

Anyone got a Clever Dripper they'd punt me? Fancy trying it while staying with the inlaws for a few weeks

I'd probably go to M&S and get some of their ready packed coffee filters or coffee bags
-
• #25118
Awesome, thanks for that!

I like James' Gourmet's offering.

Not sure what your exact limitations are but I quite like coffee bags (like tea) for travelling.
These ones seem nice, much better than most instant anyway;

Square Mile’s has changed a bit recently but always solid.
I think the wet puck might be due to the decaf process getting rid of all chaff, like a natural, which always seem to leave a really sticky puck.
Have you tried to dial out the bitterness? If you’re used to using a normal coffee, a decaf would probably need very different parameters. So the usuals for getting away from bitterness; coarser grind, shorter time, lower temp even. -

Have a Hario switch V60 immersion dripper hiding, think it’s size 02. If that works I’ll try and locate.

• #25123
Thanks but it’ll be going in a suitcase so glass isn’t ideal

Tried this this morning - amazed at the difference it made to my cheapo daily beans compared to my old clever recipe. Thanks!

I've got a clever dripper which you can borrow, not sure if you're over my way before you go away? Not sure I have any filters for it but I can take a look
I have a 1zpresso j-max hardly used that I would be willing to sell. But I think it is geared more for expresso grinding.
