HK still has plenty of Michelin starred restaurants. Some are reasonably priced with a three course dinner for two and a nice wine coming in at under four thousand HKD, roughly £400.

Not sure what's worse - the casual racism or the fact that nobody's called it out.

As an East Asian, people saying we eat dog as an insult has never really bothered me.
Some people do.
Then again, some French people eat snails and frogs.
Some Koreans eat silkworm larvae, live octopus (and dog)
Some Cambodians eat tarantulas
Some English people eat deep fried mars bars and skips. -

It's probably the reduction of all the cuisine to the grossest sounding items, and the inference that you'd need a separate star rating.
Obviously not a direct quote, but for some people that might be a vibe-based reading of the posts as a whole.

The family told me I couldn't buy one as they are too clever to eat so that's gone the way of foie gras (as we are in the GC thread). -

I used to buy whole squid from Morissons, pretty sure they had octopus too

Fois gras is fine, because the ducks are too stupid to regulate their appetite.
The local Lidl had whole Canadian lobsters for £10, wonder whether people think they are expensive giant shrimp.

The Chinese, of a certain area, do eat dog.
People eat guinea pig in Peru. You are told to make sure the head is there. So you don't get rat.

You forgot mechanically reclaimed meat in sausages.
Milk fed veal.
The crime of calling lemon chicken Chinese food?
Number 2 does not count as they used the term emulsion. ;)
Didn't Hong Kong have Michelin stared restaurants pre return to China?
Are there Michelin starred restaurants outside of Shanghai or Beijing?
Also using a western idealism in Chinese food.
