Is Discogs the go-to for selling vinyl? or am I better off taking it to my local shop.
-
• #2279
Guess it depends on how keen you are to get rid of it. If you want a quick turnover, then the shop's the way to go. Discogs is better if you're patient and want a bit more cash.

I seem to pick up some decent deals on eBay as a buyer, don't know what it's like to sell on.

Thanks, that's helpful and what I was thinking. Think I'll do a bit of both.

If you go down the shop route, ask for shop credit/trade-in as opposed to cash maybe (they may have something you like the look of).
You're almost guaranteed very low sell price with most shops. And it's worth shopping around if you can.
Selling direct (discogs/eBay/local fair) will bring you the most ££ obvs (and could be fun). -

Offering on here has worked for people in the past but you need to ask the right price.

I'm about 1/6 through scanning c. 2500 records into Discogs and my median value of collection is about £11 per record.
Buying every Soul Jazz compilation of the early 00s was a good investment it seemsHaving fun finding stuff like this never even played or even opened and I forgot I ever bought.

No worries.
You only missed it by a week anyway... ;D

mp3 wav only for me on these.

That’d be good. If you’re able to drop me the date when you know it, I’ll make sure to be visiting my ma nearby that weekend 👍

Anyone got a record flattening pouch or know of somewhere in London that could do it? Just got a 45 in the post thats got a nice wave that I'd prefer to try and save than send back :-(

I've got one but to be honest I wouldn't risk it on someone else's record. Try putting it in a big pile of books on a sunny shelf for a few months, it's pretty much the same process.

Why is the Discogs iOS app search so utterly shit?
Not only do you have to be annoyingly precise with your search terms, and it presents you with a bizarre, seemingly random assortment of versions of releases as opposed to prioritising any sort of master or original release page, the absolute killer feature of doom is that:
Search
List of results
Click a result (often unintentional because it is so sensitive)
‘Oh no, not that one’
Click back
Returns to home page and NOT the list of search results!?
Rinse and repeat - and, oh yeah, you’ll need to retype that search term verbatim. In what world of UX design is that desirable or logical? So, so frustrating and tedious.

I always end up using it on Safari as this iOS app is so shit.

Especially in the freezing cold at a car boot sale. Tedious.

If your serious about taking the risk. You may wanna contact Lorenzo's records wanted in Brockley, they offer this service.

Anyone recognise this label? I have a feeling it may just be some hand-drawn scrawl on a white label.
Runout has 'MANDY THE EXCHANGE' (the mastering) and the only real clue is etched BOS 006
I bought a load of water damaged records ages ago and this is about the only one I cannot ID.

That's Mandy (Amanda) Parnell, she only has a couple of credits on discogs as Mandy The Exchange. Loads of other stuff though. Doesn't help much unless you contact her and she might remember.

Vinyl pimp used to advertise the service but in reality it wasn't open to everyone. It's not worth it for the seller TBH, most dealers will buy and cherry pick a collection then try and get rid of the rest quickly.
