Yeah that’s a speaker wire with some sort of proprietary plug on the end. Snip the plug off, separate the wires and bare the ends and you can attach it to your amp.
Does the subwoofer have its own power supply? If so you’re good to go, if not then it’s passive and is going to put extra demand on your amp. You’ll need to do some research into impedance and all that witchcraft.

Hmm, a reason to upgrade then! Thanks

Does your preamp have a TT/phono input? You cannot use a regular line input for a turntable, and phono inputs always have a grounding post.

The housing halfway down is a pretty generic thing

Possibly interested in this for my eldest. It's a bit over budget but might stretch to it - could you send me some pictures?

FWIW the man at HEAR near Lewes is well-regarded as an independent audio repair man.

We’ve cleared the downstairs for decorating and I’ve been without the stereo for over a week. Health things meant a day’s R&R yesterday so I rigged up my integrated amp to the LS3/5As and the turntable in the bedroom (dumping ground for everything from downstairs) and had a nice Smog session.
I really liked using the one-box amp compared to my linear power supply - preamp - power amp / pair of monoblocks faff. It did lack a little bit of magic but still sounded lovely, I had a great time.

Nice amp, is it a kenwood? (Blurry apols no criticism implied)

It’s a Yamaha A-S500, they’re so cheap second hand it’s crazy.

RHS is where I have the TT input. There is no earth / grounding on the pre-amp...

If it doesn’t hum don’t worry about it.
-
• #12766
I wouldn't. But it does.
Can get it so the hum is generally low level but it's enough to bug me and a bit too easily prone to an accidental displacement for my liking ... Any suggestions welcome 😀

What happens if you touch the earth against an exposed bit of the negative RCA?
Edit: nothing I suppose. Duh.

• #12768
Sure.
I'll update the "for sale" post this week and I'll PM you once sorted.
"Some time this week" good enough or are you in any hurry to see some pics? -

no hurry here :)

That is very odd, first time I've ever seen a phono pre with no ground.
Instructions how to connect the ground here

But of your amps chassis isn't grounded in the way expected you're going to have hum I suppose. Replacement preamp would likely sort it. -

Anyone with a good stereo who likes the Beatles, I heartily recommend the 2010 and onwards remasters of most of their stuff.
i.e. Red and Blue are now available at 96khz/24bit... but if you already had lossless you probably cannot hear the difference, but what you can hear is that the mixes are soooo much better. So much so, that I went and got the recent issue of Revolver and they've finally fixed the awful Eleanor Rigby stereo mix. So I went and got The Beatles (white album) and damn... the mixes are sooo good, so clean, that they sound modern. If you have a great stereo and can get the recent mixes, it's really worth relistening to everything again.

Not audiophile at all but I'm looking for a dab radio for my bathroom. Needs to be not too big, damp-proof enough to cope with humidity from showers, rechargeable (preferably with a standard USB cable) with decent battery life, easy on device controls. Cheers

I have one of these for sellz if anyone wants.
I hope this is allowed here. I am trying to identify a specific cable...
I am wondering if I can use my existing Samsung PS-EW1-1 subwoofer with another sound system. I originally bought this as part of the Samsung HW-F350 soundbar. The soundbar itself no longer works and has been discarded but I have kept the subwoofer.
Specifically, I would like to know the name/type of cable used for the PS-EW1-1 unit. I have never seen this sort of cable before, and understanding what it's called/its specifications would help me narrow down its compatibility with other speakers/amplifiers, etc.
Photos attached of the cable. The wire is coiled around some sort of housing unit halfway as the original installation instructions suggested. Perhaps this helps narrow the cable type down. I would be really grateful if someone could help me identify this!
Thanks in advance
