  • Whereabouts are you staying or what do you have planned ?

  • I am staying at the Mondrian on Park Avenue for four days, and I have Il Gattopardo for a work thing on night 1. Would love a solid pizza rec, a lunch rec, and two evening meal reccs. I will check Eater, but people here seem to always know good spots.

  • So most of the places I have would be further south around lower east but here’s some I like.

    Lunch
    Her name is Han
    Faiccos
    Court st grocers
    No1 taco

    Dinner
    Via Carota
    Wildair
    Ernestos
    Wus wonton king
    Altro paradiso
    Great NY Noodletown

    Pizza
    Scarrs
    Lucali
    Prince st

  • This is awesome - tysm!

  • Random one, but does anyone have any suggestions for Warwick/Leamington Spa? Weirdly they don't have a section on Eater or Timeout....

  • Give me a few mins, my mate lives on Warwick high street and he eats out a lot so I'll get the reccos

  • While I'm waiting for him to get back, another mate runs a taco van and he's at Herbert's Yard thurs-sun in November. It's a bit of a schlep from Warwick but his El Pastor is amazing.

    For food I’d say:

If Warwick I would recommend La mesa or tasca Dali. Red hot mama for
pizza, chip shed for fish and bottomless chips. If a bit outside I
would recommend fleur de lis for their pies also super lovely and by
the canal in the country :)

Then leam maybe carisma, hayashi and raro :) red hot mama for pizza
    and libertine for burgers.

Best restaurant in the area for fine dining is The Cross in
Kenilworth. I was there Sunday and it still absolutely rules

  • Don't really ever venture into Soho anymore, but a shoutout to Bao for their Horlicks ice cream sandwiched between a fried bao bun (one of the more doughnut shaped buns, not your usual soft and fluffy ones)

Any suggestions for a Christmas dinner? Right now I'm just thinking about Marksman because you can't really go wrong...

  • Thanks very much! I'll have a look into them

  • Everyone I know between Brum, Cov, and Leamington bangs on about Libertine so that's definitely one worth checking out

  • I'd love to try Babur, sadly not possible for me: https://www.babur.info/menus/christmas-day-lunch

  • Bristol recs? Ideally old market-way

  • Chido Way, Tomo no Ramen and Dough Heads are my favourite on that side of town

  • Ha - those are the ones we've come up with as well. But glad to hear.

  • Ha, yeah they're the classics. A bit further east, but Native Vine is also supposed to be very good - I've never tried but the bakery next door (Loaf), run by the same people, is great

  • Oh man, I miss Babur.

  • treated Mrs M to one our favourite places for late lunch at Wright Bros by Borough Market.

In return Mrs M treated me to Bread Ahead dough nuts.. when we got home

  • Russell Norman has died.

I walked past polpo more times than I dined there, but loved spuntino so much I brought the cook book! Twice.

Jay Rayner makes mention of the fact that London’s dining out experience would be a lot different if Norman hadn’t come along and started polpo.

I do love the design of his books though, the naked spine, so you could lie them flat to read recipes was a revelation (at least for me) and the recipes inside were good too..
Going to have a couple of picklebacks tonight, just because..

  • Last minute one, I’m out at a birthday party in Ladywell/lewisham sides, tonight!
Any recommendations for a solo eater over there?
    Not Indian, not gastropub.
    Thanks

  • If you wanna walk a little while the Malaysian deli in Crofton park is amazing. You could go to the beer dispensary and order in yard sale pizza.

  • There’s a good chip shop by Ladywell station.
    Turkish place in Lewisham itself.
Behind Lewisham station some pizza place.

  • Went to Marksman for Sunday lunch having thoroughly enjoyed it before. Food was great but service was rather off; shouldn't have to take a drink order and then have to get up to go to the bar to remind them after 15 minutes, especially when it was rather quiet.

Grumble/I do love the brown butter and honey tart

  • Good Koreans near Russell Sq?

  • WooJung next to Tottenham Court Rd station, in the basement of a small supermarket.
