Why does lfgss block access from Russia?
-
• #119278
I would just go to the library, it's half way between the pier and station and has a good coffee shop next door
Edit-scrap that just seen you want privacy for calls

soaked it in WD40 for 2 days and tried the gentle (and then some not-so-gentle) tapping, but no movement yet

Dose anyone here or know's of anyone who fixes, repairs or refurb old style 5 speed Freewheels?
-
• #119281
Maybe it’s reverse threaded, but it doesn’t look it.

• #119282
Problem can be skipping if a new chain is used on cogs that have been in use . BITD we changed both as new "block and chain"
What do you need doing?

WD is not a release agent try plus gas or any other release agent.

Hence the other release agent. As I have found that penetrating fluid is the wrong term
At a guess you have seen the wd40 motorbike disc brake photo.

Hence the other release agent
Just being facetious now that WD40 is a brand name covering a range of products. Plus Gas was to go-to when I were a lad.

I’ve dabbled. What do you need?

I've got a rather posh but broken 5 speed block that dosen't work. It feels like the internals are fucked, rachet or paws? broken. Def internal stuff. I don't know how to even open them up.
Basically I go through 5 speed blocks at a rate of knots on the commuter, instead of buying yet another one I was wonderin' if it might actually be possible to fix one or some of them instead of buying a new one every six months.

WD40 is a brand with multiple products now, think they own plus gas now and gt85.
The best used to be automatic gear fluid, the red stuff (50%), mixed with paraffin (25) and diesel (25%) if using red or 28 second burn heating oil you need to drop 5% and add more Auro fluid

Simplex were good,
What is the issue with a freewheel?
-
• #119295
The posh one,the one I'd like to fix dosen't "grip" in any gear. With everything fitted correctly I turn the pedals and the Freewheel just slips, spins with no forward movement, really feels like the internals are bust. The chain isn't warn, I've checked, it all worked fine for a bit then didn't.
I'm sure it's not wear, I haven't done enough miles for that.
-
• #119296
They're kinda old and obsolete so mostly cheapo stuff, but I've worked on plenty of decades old ones that are still going well. If the internals are failing before you're wearing the teeth then I'd guess you're getting too much water in them, they're not particularly well sealed but riding in the rain shouldn't kill them in 6 months. Do you clean your bike a lot?
-
• #119297
Yes.
-
• #119298
It's my Beater so not that often, kept clean but not spotless, I use MuckOff if that makes any difference.
Honestly I don't understand it myself. I recon 5 diffrent Freewheels in under 3 years. Some new some second hand. Currently the Sunrace, bought new 6 odd months ago I have fitted is slipping and gettting worse on the 14 tooth cog, not so on the bigger ones. The chain shows little or no wear or stretch.
I do ride big ring small cog 99% of the time. But yeah they SHOULD last longer than that.

Sounds like the posh one has a busted spring. Which brand/model is it? If you post a pic I can tell you how to tackle it.

Probably a question for the mods thread but I think there were very few genuine users and lots of bots.
