  • Cheers. Tried a freewheel tool like that but the holes in the retainer are not opposite each other alas. But thanks to the cross section pic I now know that it has a thread and thus might/will come loose!

  • It's definitely threaded. Can you start it off by tapping with a screwdriver in a counter-clockwise* direction?

    Then some needlenose pliers with either side of the jaws located in the slots... you should be able to rotate it out.

    Grease it well when you put it back!

    *the one in @fredtc 's photo appears to be a standard thread.

  • soaked it in WD40 for 2 days and tried the gentle (and then some not-so-gentle) tapping, but no movement yet
