Thx (just realised posted question in this not general section 🤦‍♂️) - I'd like 40mm min for gravel riding, as may venture to some more rugged areas every so often. For road I was thinking 28 or 30mm max. Are Ksyrium SL viable option for 40mm or is better to go for gravel specific wheels with wider internals?

I would have used Schraeder if it was an option but not willing to drill out my deep carbon rims haha.
I’ve got a wheeler that I drilled out to schreader and they are so much better than presta. I’d have done the mtb wheels too but they are WTB rims and have a narrow central depression which the presta fits into nicely, I’m not sure how it’d fair with the wider schreader.
I’m not sure why schreader aren’t more popular for tubeless.

When I asked about avoiding burping in my rear tire and @dancing james suggested…
you could raise pressure or try tyre inserts…
I went out with a good 40+ psi in the tyre next time and it’d already leaked by the time Id ridden the 3½ miles to the trails so I don’t think it was actually burping, rather just a shit seal at the bead.
I played around with pressure at the trails and there seemed to be a real narrow line between being so hard it felt wooden and going all squirmy wormy. It didn’t really burp any more at the trails but I don’t think I was riding very hard as I was worried about it and some hard carves on tarmac as I was getting home definitely made it burp all over the place.
I took the tire off and re taped the rim but got in such a mess refitting it and it was still leaking/leaking worse from the same spot at the bead that I ended up giving up and chucking a tube in.
Rode Glentress yesterday with a tube in and it was fine but I’m not loving how the tyres feel for cornering so think I might replace them and hopefully can get something that’ll seat and seal a bit better.
So, TLDR, recommend me a 29er tyre around the 2.6” width that should set up nice and easy. Maxxis DHF/R? There seems to be a million different versions?
Also sealant, I’m currently using muc off and I’ve got about 3/4 of a litre bottle left but is it shit? Stans, Orange seal?

I got a 1000lm of muc off in their sale and it’s shite, I’m still using it because I’m tight, but it’s awful. Even OKO lawn tractor tyre sealant is far better.

Feel like muc off is fine but maybe I never puncture.
Everyone seems to like orange seal.

Been using muc off for years, no issues, better than stans based on my experience but could just be luck
-

I used to think muc off was shite, and then I realised I wasn’t giving the bottle the requisite amount of shaky shaky before installing and ever since I’ve had no issues with it

Going to get punctures for weeks now I’ve said that, aren’t I?

Struggling to get Terravail Ramparts in 700 x 32 tan wall supple.
Need replacement as rear is now leaking thru sidewall. To be fair I have put some miles into them in the shitty chiltern roads.
Any ideas for replacement? Has to be 700x32 ideally tan cos will keep front.

My tyre looks seated (though doesn't really hold air wit no sealent) but i never heard that satisfying popping sound, so does that mean it isn't seated?

Take the valve core out and see if it holds

Depends on the rim profile. Some pop, some don't. If it doesn't pop, it'll likely not stay in place when deflated though.

It looked seated when flat so sounds like I'm good, cheers both! Let's see if it holds air with sealent

Just washed my bike after a lovely ride in very sunny but very cold conditions yesterday. Realised I had a puncture in the rear as there was dried orange seal on my seatstays etc.
Glad I didn’t have to pull over and repair a puncture. I would’ve been shivering.
Road tubeless. Gp5kstr 30c. 64psi.

Hive mind!
I can't for the life of me get a tubeless tyre (mezcal 2.1") off of a rim (wtb i29).
It might have something to do with my diminished strength due to a broken elbow two ish months ago but even the put it on a ledge, put foot on tyre, pull didn't work.
Any tips? -

Sound silly, but have you definitely broken the bead seal all the way around on both sides? Pop it all into the middle so the tyre is as baggy as poss, just in case you haven’t tried that
-
• #5493
It sounds like getting it off the bead is the problem.

I had this on a Reynolds carbon rim once, used a set of mole grips to twist it off

Pfff. So bye-bye tyre too?

Before breaking out the big guns. Unless you have an understanding other. Wait until you have the house to yourself and fill the bath with 100mm of HOT water with a shit load of bio washing powder/tabs/liquid in. Stand the wheel in it, turn it to keep the bead warm and wet, ooh Mrs. Get a stiff brush and work your way around the rim, on both sides for longer than you think. Then push on the bead with your thumbs, turning the wheel as you go for a couple of revolutions. Repeat and repeat again. Maybe repeat again. If that doesn’t work break out the big guns and say goodbye to the tyre.

Maybe you've sorted this by now. If not, maybe try this... with the tyre fully deflated, you need to take up the slack to get enough leverage to get the bead off of the rim. So get a multitool or a pair of tyre levers and wrap it in a rag (so that you don't mark the rim). Wrap the tyre around the multitool and pull down. A satisfying pop usually results and then you can ease the rest of the bead off of the rim with your thumbs.

Hey scientists
I have two bikes that I’ve not ridden for a few weeks, both raised off the ground. Overnight, both have started weeping sealant through their sidewalls. They’ve never done it before.
Could it be related to the current crazy low atmospheric pressure or is it coincidence?
They’re good condition Specialized Tracer and Terras with Orange Seal that’s a couple of months old. 40psi. Nothing changed recently.
Depends how marginal you want to get with a two wheel setup and how big you want the tyres for riding around the canals. You could quite easily do both on the Mavics with 32c tyres.
