  • Not sure how many here are into UFC/MMA, but this sucks and shows just how much free speech is being censored by the media and Israeli lobbyists.

Islam Makhachev just fought and defended his LW belt in what I believe is his most significant win to date, given the pressure going into this rematch. After winning by TKO in the first round, the first thing he says on the mic is that he doesn't want to celebrate this victory because of what's happening to Palestine and that he stands with them. I watched it live on PPV.

UFC then releases an edited clip on YT where they completely skip that first question and answer! Never paying for a PPV again. Here's what he said: https://x.com/MiddleEastEye/status/1715921334465613861?s=20

  • Even though Dana white said he didnt give a fuck about politics.

  • Ikr? Though I wouldn't put it past him, I wonder if this came from above or beyond his control.

Dana recently said flags are back, so I find it a bit suspect that after last week when a Brazilian fighter wore an Israeli flag to express his solidarity after his win, in last night's card which was full of fighters who would undoubtedly choose to wear Palestinian flags - they were not allowed to do so.

  • Yeah it didnt last long, really its all down to money with the UFC and i dont really think they give a fuck about getting dragged into the politics when there is large cash at the door sadly.

  • He does care about bottom line though

  • Bloodsport organisers have long had a certain reputation, and purist love for the art isn’t part of it.

UFC went to shit with McGregor, which is a shame because the folks fighting now are insanely talented athletes.

  • Yeah that's what I mean, he cares about the dough over everything.

  • There's no video in that link, which is odd, but the still images linked to do not look like any of the four videos in the Wall Street Journal film.

Why don't Reuters share a link to the video in question?

  • The WSJ piece will not be using the fake news video discussed in the Reuters story. No way. These are professional journalists who have verified and geolocated the four videos and aside from that they will have access to the Reuters wire, so will know all about the fake video.

Why don't Reuters share a link to the video in question?

Probably because they don't want to spread or host fake news video. I presume that because they've linked to archive.org the original videos on Facebook/TikTok/YouTube have been taken down.

  • Makes sense, thanks. In this toxic quagmire of lies and mindless hate, every verifyable fact is crucial.

  • Israeli guy on world at one on radio 4, going on about beheaded children, Hama is Isis, the Palestinian have lots of places to go, safe routes with Hamas bombing not Israel and if we don't get rid of them now they will come for your children.

Followed by discussing the chanting at the march the other day.

Braverman once again telling the police what to do.

  • 436 Palestinians reported dead in last 24 hours by Gaza authorities, as a result of 320 targets hit.

Does anyone know if the announcements differentiate between Hamas militants and civilians?

Obviously it is all a huge humanitarian disaster, but the number of deaths seems quite low compared to the scale of city wide destruction…

  • Maybe because many have fled south, are already dead, or are seriously lucky? I haven't checked recently, but when I last did, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that over 5,000 have died, 40% of whom are children. Hamas militants lets face it, are a tiny number of that count.

  • it's shocking how quickly we become blinded by numbers.

I wonder if Israel will notice how quickly they’re losing the fight in the world media. Given that they have Biden’s support, I wonder if they’d even care.

  • Israel has noticed that they are losing the media battle which is why they have arranged for a screening of body cam and other video footage of the Hamas attacks.

"We see that some of the channels are trying to compare what Israel is doing and what those vile terrorists are doing," General Edelstein said.

"I cannot understand anyone who compares," he said. "And after what we have shared with you, you should know it."

  • How so? In my view, these figures speak volumes more than Israel (or more so the USA's) et als. bullshit about taking care to not harm civilians, which itself is claim inconsistent with what we've heard, seen and read from IDF personnel.

  • these figures speak volumes more

yes, I agree. and my point was let's not forget that these were 436 real, ordinary people who deserved to have lives.

in the on-going reportage of war, these things can get lost.

my comment was part of a longer post which i deleted most of as i thought it maybe wasn't helpful. so apologies if the part which i retained seems ambiguous.

  • My bad, I misunderstood. Very valid point. They're more than numbers - all of these innocent victims.

  • I also agree, every life lost is a tragic waste.

I was just surprised as I would have expected a greater death toll from 300 missiles, and wondered if Palestine counts militants in their announced deaths.

In a related point on becoming blinded by numbers and getting desensitised, I was shocked to read that over 300000 Russian troops have either been killed or wounded in Ukraine in the past 600 days…

  • Last bit from Barack Obamas post yesterday:

Perhaps most of all, it means we should choose not to always assume the worst in those with whom we disagree. In an age of constant rancor, trolling and misinformation on social media, at a time when so many politicians and attention seekers see an advantage in shedding heat rather than light, it may be unrealistic to expect respectful dialogue on any issue — much less on an issue with such high stakes and after so much blood has been spilled. But if we care about keeping open the possibility of peace, security and dignity for future generations of Israeli and Palestinian children — as well as for our own children — then it falls upon all of us to at least make the effort to model, in our own words and actions, the kind of world we want them to inherit.

  • Yeah you don’t actually think he loved it though, do you? Sure, you can argue he was too willing to risk collateral injuries and deaths, but saying that he loved it? It’s this kind of dehumanising hyperbole that degrades the discourse and puts us all at each others throats.

  • I notice Starmer is now trying to clarify (the term doing a lot of work there) his position on beseiging civilian populations, which I suppose shows that he has recognised the way that public opinion seems to be going, remembered what human rights lawyers ought to know, or both.
