Standard western cooks knives (stainless steel) in our household go in the dishwasher. I have a bench grinder purposed for sharpening those kinds of knives so the edge can be redone in a minute or so.
Nice knives (wa handle, 15 degree angle etc, carbon steel) are washed and dried each time they are used. But there is only one person who uses them.
Who is putting sharp knives in the dishwasher?!?!
