Now I'm worried about the maintenance costs.. Hopefully mine has had all the big things done.. Another pic after a clean.. I think mine will need some suspension work and other more minor items resolved..

Nice, was this an addition or did it replace the 986?

The Boxster went in the end, I loved and hated it all at the same time. I put the demise down to the following;
Me being tight and not taking more time to buy a better example.
I learnt that I really dislike convertibles, hence the hardtop.
It was very annoying to work on and spanner.
My wife found it uncomfortable and buying a dog rendered effectively useless.Sad times really, but I had a blast with it for 20 months, so I can't complain too much.

I've had an E87 before, boring 120d that I bought on 80k and finally died on 125k. At 90k the timing chain guides went, that was the first major bill as it needed a new vibration damper as well, that added £500 to the large bill. Then at 125k the HPFP lunged the engine and wrote it off.
Anyway...... I got this 130i as stop-gap car. We are in the process of selling the house so I didn't want to get my wallet out here. It's an interesting spec; full leather, heated seats, pro Idrive & xenon’s (potentially not factory). With the addiction of some nice enhancements:-
Upgraded discs, pads
Progressive LSD
Bc racing coilovers (BR series)
Rear k brace
M3 lower control armsI have already done 500 miles in it and it's a blast, real good fun.

Bad bits
The wheels are awful, incorrect OEM fitment from E90/E91.
Awful black grills.
The gear shifter lever is the wrong way round and needs rotating 180deg. Meaning it’s not centrally located, with neutral being too far forward and feels like it’s in gear.I have purchased and fitted this weekend correct E87 OEM fitment alloys with full matching Michelin Climate Cross tyres that will be more than suitable for the Autumn/Winter.

I also owned a 130i for approx 12 months, amazing car -engine is brilliant and the noise awesome. I ended up importing a 523i with the 2.5 engine - more refined but not as exciting a drive

This thread has definitely had more than a little influence in me buying this Cayman. It's a 987 2.7 120k miles with a pretty good service history. 5 days in, loving it so far.

Awful black grills.
Absolute pet hate of mine. Never understood the appeal.

Excellent choice, where can you put a dog legally in a Coxster?

Coxster? Front boot?

3 weeks and 350miles into ownership.
I’m glad I went for the 17” wheels as the ride is quite nice with the BC suspension. I’m a huge fan of the 18” style 208 wheels, just not so sure the ride quality will be any good.
I’ve ordered a replacement grill from a breakers and debating whether to keep the rear boot spoiler.
It’s really good cross-country hack car, loads of fun.

Looks great.. I dunno.. I quite like a car with all black trim.. or all chrome..

Excellent choice. Good friend of mine also has a 130i, he’s really pleased with it and says it the best all round car he’s ever had!

Somehow the 130i seems to go under the radar compared to the later m-lite mob.

6 weeks in and 700 miles on the clock.
The wheels and tyres have made a huge difference.
Changed the crap halogen bulbs for Philips racing vision bulbs.
Fitted OEM grill, it’s not the full fat 6 cyclinder one, as these have chrome slats, but anything is better than gash black.
Also corrected the gear linkage, the gear position neutral was always too far forward. A previous owner had the bend the way round.
I’m off to C&M with my brother this weekend. They have the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept car on display.

I’ve been waiting a while for this update, in the summer I signed up to a local animal rescue centre as a response driver. The intention was to use my project car for the duties and document my experience.

Sadly no update, I’ll try and get something over Christmas. I did have another rescue call during the week, for a red wing bird in Wells, but was stuck in meetings :-(

Couple of small jobs over the festive period.
1). Adjust BC dampers set to the softness setting all round. The arse of the vehicle was crashing around dealing with London’s 20mph speed bumps. This has improved the ride nicely.
2). My speedo wasn’t registering the correct speed below 20, then I got the dreaded trifecta warning lights. Quick scan in INPA revealed it was the rear left speed sensor.
3). Found the rear exhaust heat shield fixing has given out, so I’ll have to order one in the new year.
4). Ordered a replacement armrest, my car has the phone cradle that is integrated into the moulding and doesn’t offer any storage.
5). My car has rear wiper delete, which is hugely impractical. Annoyingly the motor has been removed aswell, so more bits need to be purchased from breakers.

It’s a classic design, and that looks really clean, I bet you’re pleased with it. In hindsight I wish I spent a little bit more time and money finding a better one, the Porsche goggles got to me!
I need to carry on with the mechanicals:-
DIY Jobs
Rear brakes
Front condensers
Finish the retrofit interior (door cards)
Water pump & thermostat
Coils & spark plug tubes
Suspension refresh
Specialist Jobs
New clutch and other jobs recommended at the same time (IMS/RMS).
I need the Boxster in good shape for 2024 for my 40th, got a trip planned involving Stuggart.
