  • Charging interest and a late payment fee - would I charge interest on the interest if the late payment invoice isn't paid on time but the original invoice is paid within 30 days from late payment invoice?

    back of napkin example:

    01 08 2023
    Invoice

    01 10 2023 (so 30 days after statutory period)
Invoice separately for late payment interest, plus £40 comp.

    15 10 2023
    Original invoice gets paid

    20 11 2023
No sign of late payment invoice sum clearing - has interest been accrued on the 5 days the late payment is overdue?

Would I charge interest on the late payment invoice? I can't charge interest on the original payment by that stage as it's been paid. But I don't want to leave anything on the table.

  • There's a pretty good chance they're of the view that the late payment invoice was a scare tactic and now they've paid the original it can be ignored.

Yeah, if the payment was a month late I'd lean towards what @aggi says above. a month or two late is fuck all ime, not saying it's good but just pretty standard.

If that's just a made up example and the reality is you've been fucked over for a lot longer and you never want to work with them again then go for it, but if its just a month I'd let it go.
