Those features you're talking about are all processed on device though, right? Nothing is shared with Apple.
Many negatives you can level at Apple but privacy concerns isn't one of them.

It’s not ‘all the things’, it’s just for children in your family group
On their website they say
Communication Safety now includes protections for sensitive videos and photos. And it extends beyond Messages to include content sent and received in AirDrop, the systemwide photo picker, FaceTime messages, Contact Posters in the Phone app, and third‑party apps.
and you can turn it on or off
..yea, but as mentioned I definitely did turn off the face recognition thing, what good is that if they sneakily switch it on again without asking you in 17.x?

It’s for children only. Unless you are a child in a family group being administered by an adult who has turned it on you have nothing to worry about.
The face recognition in the Photos app you refer to is not part of ‘Communication Safety’. As I said, the processing is done ‘on device’ so privacy should not be a concern.

Apparently "significant locations" and "iPhone analytics" are being switched back on when upgrading to iOS 17..

Any Pro Max people? i loved my 12 mini, but the battery was hot garbage so I go a Pro, my hands are too small for the Pro, so I use a pop-socket thing (magsafe one).. considering just going Pro Max.. if I cant hold the Pro anyway, may as well get the bigger screen? from my brief play with one with the pop-socket on its no less difficult to use than the Pro

I love my 14 Pro Max for all the screen real estate. It is a big bastard though. Even worse if you choose to use a case.

Same here, no issues in 15 Pro (and wireless charging also works... if I don't use quad lock that is. Ordered a Peak Design case but seems a bit too expensive for what it is)
Upgraded from 14 Pro, wasn't a necessary upgrade but 14 Pro went to wifey this way and I love a standard port. I wish there was a way to swap the Airpods 2 Pro case with the usb-C one though (there isn't).

Yep, the overheating seems to be caused by a couple of rogue apps (which I don’t use), storm in a teacup.
I was coming from a six year old iPhone X, so it’s a big upgrade for me.
The only thing I didn’t like was the FineWoven case. Not so much the material but the fact that the charge port didn’t align correctly with the cut-out in the case, so I couldn’t get a USB-C cable plugged in. Apple swapped it out for a silicone case which aligns perfectly.

14 Pro QL case fits quite well on the 15 Pro as well. Obviously the OG 15 Pro case has better and much improved separate buttons.

Anyone used a Remarkable notepad? (Not apple but not sure where else to ask…)
-
• #20790
I thought you tried it but decided against it? I've been looking at one for about a year but reluctant, though the new keyboard is pushing me closer. (Aware it defeats a lot of the USP). My main ask would be a bit more integration into 'stuff'. I'd like to know how well it plays with Google docs /sheets etc. Notion might be fun as well but perhaps moving beyond intended purpose.

So I know I like it for writing but I’m looking for how well people get on with using it or if eventually ends up on a shelf. I’ve come to the conclusion writing on the iPad is just not great. It’s great and I do use it a lot but I still take notes on paper. So it hasn’t replaced that use case.
The new keyboard folio is making me think I want a Remarkable 2. Did look at the Kindle scribe but I didn’t like some of the reviews

currently 14 pro but gonna get 15 pro max for that 120mm lens next week

Me and my wife both have one, my wife bought one for work then she managed to get one through a rewards program through her job so I nabbed that one.
They are brilliant for writing on but whether or not it's worth it depends on how heavy your note taking is I guess. I definitely don't use mine enough to justify the cost and if it wasn't a freebie wouldn't be worth it but my wife uses hers all the time. She used to hammer through note pads and couldn't live without it.
If you do get one paying extra for the pen with the eraser built in is worth just makes it completely natural. Their warranty seems good as well, my wife's pen broke and they sent a new one out within a week.

Had a bit of a read around these while procrastinating. What was it about the Scribe reviews that put you off?
The idea of a subscription for the Remarkable sounds a bit shit, but then it appears that's only if you want to edit later. And actually most of the time I'd only need to edit at the time, or immediately after.
Idk if it means anything, but I thought it was interesting looking on ebay and seeing the huge difference in used devices (basically no Scribes), but wonder if that's because a Scribe can (maybe) replace your kindle even if you don't use it for notes.

Ok that sounds promising. I write a lot of notes but don’t like taking them on my laptop when travelling or in meetings. So tend to use phone or most often notepad. I’ll probably get through a few pages per day so can get through plenty of books but only infrequently refer back to them after a couple of weeks.

It’s more expensive and I don’t think I would really use it for reading because it’s so big. It doesn’t offer notes to text feature.
I went for the iPad bc at the time I couldn’t convince myself to spend the money on something which just does one thing (very well) so don’t think I will do that again.
(iPad is still useful and I already have a Kindle) -

It's such a hard thing to recommend, it does what it does amazingly well but it's target demographic is pretty niche. If you fall within it you'll love it.

Colleague was projecting his remarkable to a zoom call the other day. If you want to sketch a diagram and show it to colleagues it appeared the way. Made me consider getting one.
-

Have just been on their website again and saw that function (I hadn't seen it before). My only hesitation now is that the remarkable2 has been out for a few years and my luck with tech cycles is the second I buy it they'd release a 3. Obvs in the right thread.

Asking those who may know.
Ipad mini 5. Would I regret swapping out my full size ipad 9th gen for one?
I'd like to be able to fit something in my handlebar bag.
Can't really afford a 6 mini.
Will the mini 5 be unsupported / obsolete soon?
Cheers

It’s for voice notes in Messages, if you ever use them. I don’t.
