  • New fairings for XTZ have arrived from Perfect Fairings in Greece (I think?)

Quality is pretty decent but will need some filling and sanding before paint and need to drill and fit too...

Looking forward to a spruce up over winter now!

  • I'm shit, can confirm fine for level shit.

  • That Aprilia is very nice. Also not jealous at all @skinny, the hue of that sky is quite hard to see right now.

Dropped some SRAD bits off at the local engineering firm and spotted this.

  • Looks spectacular! I missed an absolutely perfect weekend for dirt here with a bloody bug that knocked me on my arse. Now we're back to heatwave again....grr.

  • Hot here 27c at 1000m, maybe not as hot as there but mad for October.

@jambon we are under high pressure and been blue skys for 2 weeks now, really need some rain tbh.

  • That's still warm for sure! It's back to mid 30s at my local spot this week. It's all hilly, rocky single track...too much for me. Was low 20s and cloudy this weekend, perfect.

  • Yeah high 20s and afternoon sun isn't pleasant at all. Mid 30s is a hard no.

  • Yeah, super dry too, so leeches out all your electrolytes double quick. I always end up with a headache, even after guzzling water with Nuun tablets.

  • need some new boots on the Explorer (passed its MOT but a verbal for the front)

Currently has Road Pilot 3(?) which are now obsolete, but Road 6 are the current model.
Firstly, only the front was cautioned, is it worth ponying up for a new rear at the same time (for matchy matchy)?

Secondly, other tyres to look at?
On road, all weather, low mileage annually.

Priced up some Road6 and its about £300 for the pair delivered, plus whatever the garage want to charge for fitting (although I will see what the garage charge for supplying and fitting)

  • I have Road 6 on the GS and they're awesome. Tried some Conti TA 3s on last time around and glad to be back on the Michelins.

  • Where are you based? Bike treads Swindon are good.

They were almost £100 cheaper supplied and fitted than other garages due to the fact they have a very good relationship with tyre suppliers or so I'm told.

So sometimes it's better to get the garage to supply and fit.

  • @soul that's the recommendation I am after! My old bike had hybrid on/off road tyres, so was impressed by road grip on the RPs compared to Trailwings.

@haggis I'm Essex, but any excuse to ride for a few hours is valid. Will see how much my local place wants to charge and maybe I'll make a trip west.

Maybe closer to you and they are always super helpful with my stupid questions.

  • You’re Swindon-based as well? Or nearby a least?

You can also try Ash’s Autos. He’s in West Swindon, and does his best to be competitive with the local competition.

  • Also yes, Road 6 have been the most-recommended from what I’ve seen.

My CBR is running older style Metzeler I think, because they were more affordable and more suitable for the limited power of 100hp. No complaints.

  • Hey folks, I have been restoring/building a 85 CD125T over the summer and have my CBT booked in for the end of the month which is exciting!

Just wondering if there are any 'budget but good' clothing brands out there. Im new to the motorbike world but excited to get the bike built and ready for some rides!

  • What size are you?

  • M or L I reckon :)

  • Oxford and Merlin are budget but good.
Bull-it jeans are cheap and good.

My top tip would be Knox urbane shirt. Pricey but allows you to utilise existing kit for warmth or weather protection over the top of it in colder weather and gives great airflow in the summer.

  • Check out SportsBikeShop . com for gear.
Delivery is always swift, prices are good, returns are easy.

Don't be put off by the name, it is not only race gear they sell.

I like to wear textile trousers over regular jeans, Oxford and Spada are my current go-to for trousers (a size or two larger than I am)
I have "expensive" Alpinestars jackets because I used to commute 12 months on a motorbike and they were better fit and weather protections, but I also have an armoured hoody and an armoured shirt for summer trips to the shops if I don't want all the protection (I know the risks and I take them, generally I am slower on those journeys than I have been on a road bike in lycra on other routes)

  • Akin Moto are excellent quality, look cool and work great if you don't mind ordering online and shipping from Australia... still very affordably priced even after shipping!
I've got an older version of their Alpha jacket and I'll be replacing it with the new one and the matching trews (I might also get a pair of their riding chinos to make up for that shipping cost) before winter kicks in proper 'round here.

  • These look really cool :)

  • They're honestly great, I feel like they've really nailed good quality, stylish basics. They're super helpful and responsive on email and IG messenger too. 10/10 would recommend.

Otherwise I quite like Alpinestars and Revit but they're both a bit spennier unless you find what you want on sale.

Then there's the holy grail of snazzy moto gear Jane Motorcycles

Impossibly nice jackets that look even better in person but $$$.

  • Need a bigger tank. 10L is just annoying.

  • Drz is just the right blend of weight, to power, to menoverability. Any heavier and I'd have been fucked on some of the rougher tracks this morning. Any less power and I've had have been bored on the tarmac sections. Such a great compromise.
