  • I just remember joining a very long queue at Hart Bageri. Was very much worth it.

  • Also does anyone have any food recs for Lisbon? Got a few things in mind but trying to find somewhere that caters well for my vegetarian OH and does more than one dish is proving troublesome

Me on the other hand, bifanas's for days

  • Plano

    https://en.planorestaurante.com/

Very good, went there twice in three days. You’d have to enquire about vegetarian options but they dealt with a carnivore/ pescatarian group with no issues.

My brother lives in Lisbon post if you want mw to tap him up.

  • Dad’s birthday - he would like to go to Simon Rogan but not sure the whole family can stomach £175 a head. So any suggestions for cheaper tasting menus, preferably with a sustainable farm to table ethos. London or Essex

  • Hi all. I'm about to look ridiculous, because I'm French and need French restaurant recommendation in London.

So, there was a restaurant in Clapham with an unfortunate name, "Gastro" (it may associate with gastro pub or whatever in English, but in french the immediate link you'd make is gastroenteritis). It was trying a bit too hard to be like an old fashion popular French restaurant, a bit too "Amélie", a bit too cliche... But somehow it worked, to me, to French friends who I had dinner there with, and even to my parents, who are not easily impressed by that kind of vibe. The place was a little bit f***ed-up too, which added some charm. Most importantly, they served Andouillette. The owner (I think) was French, most staff definitely were.

Anyway, Gastro closed a few years back, sadly, but I now need to find a similar place in London/central London. It can't be posh or pretentious, can be a bit cliche, like Gastro was, loud and busy and a bit f***ed-up would be good.

Thanks in advance for any recommendation.

  • They had aussie waiting staff there with french accents. this was many years ago since my last visit.
French Bistro has just opened up opposite Gipsy Hill Station, no idea what it’s like though.

  • Location wise this would be great, I'll go check it out on my way back from work I think, thanks!

  • Give Brasserie Zedel a try.

  • Gazette Trinity in Wandsworth Common?

  • Chez Yves has been in Penge for years, they're obviously doing well if they are branching out to Gypsy Hill. To me, a non-French person, it has always given a very authentic French vibe and the food is very good @veLLo

Is that great French bistro on Lordship Lane, think it was called Le Chardon, still open?

  • Le Garrick in covent garden ticks quite a few of those boxes i reckon...

  • There's Les 2 Garcons in Crouch End although that might be the wrong side of the river

  • Poule Au Pot

    Accept no substitute.

  • Cant vouch for the whole of it, but many friends visited places from this list from my coworker and all left happy: https://www.google.com/maps/@/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!11m1!2sB0kkK5P4cKSbdCQYeeBJIp1Pu6pxKA

@veLLo The French House? It really hits the "The place was a little bit f***ed-up too, which added some charm. " mark. Maybe Casse Croute?

  • There's Les 2 Garcons in Crouch End

we went here - enjoyed it

  • Forgot to mention this but AngloThai’s summer pop-up Outcrop at 180 Stand was incredible. Though it’s the last week now. But keep your eyes peeled for anything else he does.

Also loving Apricity in central and Wander on Stoke Newington.

  • Was just going to ask about Apricity, what a coincidence. Have seen a few reviews on Google (and one Timeout review) saying the food wasn't great for the price etc. but was hoping those were picky outliers, general consensus seems to be good.

Don't usually eat out but looking for somewhere nice to go for the partner's birthday on Saturday lunch and she's really into the whole sustainability thing; initially had a booking for Silo but then got cold feet after reading too many reviews about tiny portion sizes and pretentiousness.. am aware replacing that choice with a restaurant in Mayfair is probably out of frying pan into fire but does anyone have any better recommendations than Apricity with similar ethos and prices ideally around or under 50 per pax? Outcrop seems to have availability at that time..

  • Fallow claims to have that kind of ethos and is very good.

  • You might struggle to get a table this short notice but Bouchon Racine in Farringdon is great

  • Went to have a look tonight on my way home, looks cute but maybe a little too small/quiet for this occasion. Definitely keen to try it another time though, thanks for suggesting it!

Thanks all for the many options, will check as many as I can...

  • Been there, really nice indeed, but too posh for what I'm after.

  • I’m lucky enough to be in Seville this week, a zillion places to eat but any recommendations?

  • I walked past a place on exmouth market today that looked good but couldn’t find it online so it must be new. There is La Petite Ferme on Farringdon road but looking at the map reminded me of Le Cafe du Marché in charterhouse mews which I have eaten in several times, nice but not cheap, love the location though as it feels quite French with the pavé outside.

Edit: found it https://www.lapetitefermelondon.com/ which is on exmouth market so maybe its moved from Farringdon road as it mentions exmouth market on the site?

  • Danish friend's list of Copanhgen places and thoughts is here

    Top of my head
    Baest- really good Pizza
    Gasoline grill- great burgers
Warpigs brewpub - great Mikeller beer and ribs
Killer Kebab - great kebabs (Kebabistan is good but never blown my socks off)
Berlin Döner Kopenhagen - Also good for kebabs
Keyser Social - Asian fusion with a nordic twist
    Spiseloppen (Christianshavn),
Aamanns Replik- in the The Playhouse (new royal theatre) right by the harbour,
    Topical on Jægersborggade,
    Friheden (Nørrebro),
    Pirlo (Amager),
    Lygtens Kro (NV)
On top of that they will be well sorted just by going to the Meatpacking District in central Cph, tons of eateries there (incl. Warpigs)

    https://migogkbh.dk/spiseguide/
is a good guide to eateries in Cph, it's only in danish but guess google translate can sort you out

  • Hey late to this party, but this place is one I've been meaning to take the missus to but have never got round to (but she spent time studying in Lyon)
