I think this should work KS Dropper
27.2 / 120mm travel / 465mm total length / I can't find min-insert for the external one, but a similar internal model seems to suggest 139 mm minimum, which should give you a few mm left to play with. It does say 'short insertion length to travel ratio'. -

Mmmh I may have misread the specs. The ks lev have an insert measure between 240mm and 250mm (https://kssuspension.com/products/dropper-seat-posts/lev/).
I tought this is the minimal insert !! -
• #4754
I think 250 is the maximum.
Seems like you have the opposite problem to most people, where they need to make sure that the post fully extended at full insertion isn't too tall for them to reach the pedals.

Exactly ! Thank you for opening my eyes !

any tall riders got a Stooge mk5?
I have the chance to get a mk5 in 19.5" frame size but not really sure about how the fit will feel. I'm 1.89m/6ft2 and a bit. -
• #4757
Off STW @TotalShanner? I have the seller's previous MK4 and can confirm they are an excellent seller for what it's worth.
Being a MK4 owner (at a mere 5ft 6in) I'm comfortable on it with a 35mm stem and some medium rise bars. They're pretty versatile in terms of sizing - I'd say go for it!

Yes! Chatting to him right now. I've been a lurker on stw since forever and remember him posting photos of it last year when it was first built up.
I think I'm about to make an impulse buy..

Mine was the best bike-related decision I've made. Never ridden a MK5, but my 4 is the one I'd save from the garage if it was burning down. If you can afford to, do it. You won't find a better seller to buy one from.
Tell him Drew says hi, and still has his 'Rubber Soul / Revolver' bike. He'll know what I mean!

Aye, I think I've made my mind up. I've wanted a Stooge for ages but every time I find one for sale its been the smaller frame size. I can't deny that you own absolute weapon of a mk4 has inspired me too! I admit that I'd much prefer the blue like yours but beggars cant be choosers...
-
• #4761
I wanted a red one in truth, but as you say - beggars can't be choosers, especially when they're not exactly easy to come by anyway! Mine's slowly getting battered so hopefully I'll eventually be able to justify a respray.
It'll be great to see another Stooge on the forum, fingers crossed it all comes together for you!

6'2" is tall now? ;-)
-
• #4763
How dare you!
I'd argue that I'm kinda still growing. Although it's more through the horizontal axis now :(
I recently built up a new mtb with an air sprung fork. All my other bikes run coil and this was the first time I'd pumped up an air fork for a few years. I had a wee laugh/cry when I realised the Rockshox pressure chart on the fork leg no longer gives a precise pressure for me and instead just says ">110psi" -

They're looking to the future mate. Everyone's gonna be as wide as tall. Just max that shit!
Show and tell on the Stooge. Saw one for the first time the other day and I'm smitten.
-
• #4765
Well it's now officially mine! We can start a forum owners club soon..
-
• #4766
Yeah I've been wanting one for years, they seem like great bikes. They used to be a one size fits all affair which was annoying because one size definitely doesn't fit all...
I'll get some photos up this thread once its built. Rigid single speed with a 29x3" front tyre.
How times have changed for me. -

Never again concern yourself with the trivialities of compression damping!
-

You just have to become incredibly anal about front tyre psi... p.s. get a Duro Cruz 29x3.25...

'why are there only 4 click of hsc?! why cant I feel a difference in 9 clicks of lsc? Is that oil leaking out the top cap? I think my bushings need re-sized? Why isn't that bladder available as a spare part?'

Ha! I do actually need tyre recommendations. If you don't count the Nokian Gazzaloddi from the early 2000's, 3" tyres are new ground for me.

Awesome news, congratulations! Glad to hear you're keeping it pure with a SS drivetrain too ;) Looking forward to seeing some pics once it's built up, I always liked that Ochre colour.
In terms of tyres, although I run B+ as opposed to full 29+ on mine, I've been using Maxxis Rekon+ front and back for ages and really rate them. I ride weekly in our local woods and they can handle most conditions pretty well and still roll plenty fast enough for me. They come in 2.8, although inflate a little narrower on my rims: (https://www.bikemonger.co.uk/maxxis-rekon-folding-exo-tr-29-x-280-23514-p.asp)
Oh, and inserts - do yourself and favour and fit some! Especially if you have carbon rims, they give you peace of mind to really experiment with tyre pressures without fearing every square-edged root. I just use the cheap-ish Huck Norris ones, and run the tyres at around 12PSI front and 15PSI rear. I'm 60kgs in my riding gear for reference.

What’s the internal width of the rims you’re running them on?
I have a set of 30mm internal width rims that I can use to get the bike up and running initially.
I’m usually in the “you can run any tyre on any width rim” school of thought but realise that it might be different at this end of the spectrum.I like the idea of a 650b+/29+ mullet. I’ll definitely be running inserts, although I’m not sure I’ll get away with 12psi! But hopeful to run under 20psi and see how it goes…
-
• #4774
I think I’ll go for one of those Duro tyres up front.
But I don’t have the ‘correct’ width rims.
All I need is for someone to say 30mm will be fine? -

All I need is for someone to say 30mm will be fine?
All you can do is try it
Then realise it was a terrible idea and get a wider rim
Too short I'm afraid. I need 300mm between my collar and the saddle rails. I coudn't find a post long enough with a coherent minimal insert. Except the thomson one.
