• Can a washing machine be put in a bathroom? Does it need to be a specific type?

  • Look into bathroom zoning regulations from building control. I expect you'll be fine, but it's harder than you think to comply if the room is on the small side.

    Essentially: an electrical socket for a washing machine must be beyond zone 2 which is 0.6m from bath, shower and basin(s).

  • Ok thanks, so maybe 60cm from the edge of a shower tray to closest edge of the washer? It is a small bathroom.

  • Not absolutely certain he was telling the truth, but our builder put a stud wall in between shower and washing machine / tumble dryer sockets and said that was necessary and sufficient for regs. Would be much less than 60cm through the wall but much more going around

    Edit - not actually sure if there's a socket or if they're wired straight in
