  • Actually just seen them on offer two for 100 quid tan wall.

  • Thanks all!

  • Picked up some new Challenge Strada 700x40 tyres the other day...Never have I met a tighter tyre. Are they known to stretch over time? if not, I'll have to throw the bike away when they puncture.

They're still not seated properly on the rims either. Running tubes.

  • I recall my challenge tyres being hard to fit but were okay after a few months of riding

  • Yeah, I had the same. Absolute bitch to get on first time, but once on they are much more agreeable to get off and back on again.

  • Ain't called challenge for no reason. Never again. Do stretch and a cinch to get on/off after a puncture. Lovely ride mind.

  • Challenge tyres are utterly appalling to fit. Leave them on the radiator before fitting.

  • And or buy a bead jack.

  • Pirelli p zero race TLR recall. Unsure if it applies to UK

I've been contemplating getting a pair of these. Seem fast, but I've read some negative things about durability/puncture resistance, and as you say, ease of fitting. The guy at bicyclerollingresistance seems to think they have decent puncture protection though, so a little confused!

I'm mostly riding hardpack/light gravel, which is bone dry 99.9% of the time, so don't really need much tread and durability probably not such a major concern anyway. Want something that will also roll fast on tarmac as well.

  • Personally I’d go for Vittoria Terreno Dry over Challenge, more durable and harder wearing.

  • Are Vittoria Open Pave still the go to open tubular for winter? Or does a decent open tubular for winter not exist.

  • I've been riding paves year round for road riding/touring/commuting for ten years, absolutely no regrets.

  • Did i miss the memo on Cinturato's coming up small? My 35c measures about 32.5mm across, about 1mm wider than the 30c Rubino pro's they're replacing.

  • 700c chunky commuting tyres up to 42mm... tubeless and not mega heavy...

I was thinking Panaracer Gravelking Slick in 38mm, open to suggestions for other options though πŸ‘πŸ»

  • Maxxis re-fuse, Vittoria terreno zero or whatever other decent tyre you can find cheap

  • Vuttorias purchased πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

  • x2
I do Re-fuse to move away from my Re-fuses!

Love them, even converted my wife to them!
And great in low psi (40ish) for hardpack gravel when is dry!

  • I've installed Ultradynamicos Cava tyres in 650B and 2.2 size (measure 57-58mm on my rims), and I think – I am not so sure about it yet – that this diamond pattern is kind of a stone ballista. This pattern likes to collect stones / gravel. I could put a double sided tape on the downtube and check. I thought that this could be a drawdown, but wanted to give it a try, on my search for fat road slicky-style tyres.

  • These look promising. I'm not sure they're quite ready for us yet though ...

    NASA Tyres

  • How shit are schwalbe big apples in the 700x50c variety?

  • Don't suppose anyone's selling some Terravail Ramparts in 700x32c flavour are they? Would also consider 700x35c Gravel King slicks.

  • They’re fine. Quite Heavy and slow though ime

  • For winter off-road / Epping forest riding. Fast and light where possible 650b recommendations?

    Senderos?
    Continental Cross King?
    Maxxis ICON?

All new stuff to me so any recommendations much appreciated. I dunno what I’m doing.

  • Race king with that sweet transparent wall.
