I have absolutely no idea! We always did have a step down but I guess it was inside the room rather than door.
All the open plan places pass so not sure why you’d need anything extra? When we had our loft done they said we would either need fire alarms in every room or replace all doors with fire doors, maybe that’s the answer? We went fire alarms obvs.

How did you manage to pass building control with those inset-into-doorframe steps leading up to the living room?
Our builder is adamant that we'll need to put in temporary steps which don't incorporate the door frame, and a fire door, to pass BC.
