It's directed by Michael Mann, you can't go too far wrong.

The atmosphere the HD video provides is next level, the scene with the wolves is one of my favourites.

Somehow I missed that until the final credits. "A Michael Mann film" - ah, I thought, well that explains a lot.
@Soul I was essentially in the same state of fortunate ignorance. If it's that long since you watched it, definitely worth a revisit. There isn't a wasted scene or line in that film.

Miami Vice has a similar feel. "That was surprisingly good - oh, it's Michael Mann".

Also the talents of Luis Tosar who elevates everything i see him in.

Jamie Foxx does a good job of making anything he is in much more watchable

anything he is in
Even that blue costume?

Asteroid City - famous faces snooze fest.
Gold Brick - the French do Oceans 11, really enjoyed it. Gets an extra star for the reggae fable at the start and the full Yellowman 12” disco biscuit at the end.

Seen Past Lives last night at the cinema, going by how much folk where raving about it. I was really expecting something special tbh and it just left me a bit meh at the end of it.
Even the cinematogarphy I thought was a bit basic and boring, i mean it was nice but it was just that.

Across the Spiderverse is absolutely incredible.
10/10 for me.
Cant see how they’ll top it with the final one.

El Conde is decent on Netflix

Watched Hell or High Water again last night. The dialogue is superb when you can actual hear them.

Maigret
I've liked all the iterations, even the Rowan Atkinson tv series. The latest Gerard Depardieu keeps up the tradition. Barely any of it is done above walking pace, including the story, but it held me for its ninety minutes -

M3GAN was a good laugh at the end of a rough week. Enjoyed the not so subtle movie influences/homages (Terminator, Aliens, Gremlins amongst others) but kept expecting the mailman from Don't be a Menace to pop up and hammer home all the deep messages.

I'll admit I'm a bit og a Fincher fan boy. I always knew he was particular but this little doc on Panic Room (underrated film IMO) just shows the level of detail he gets into.

Just watched The Creator, proper Sci-fi porn.

Since last Tuesday evening I have watched all the mission impossible films, in this order
Fallout
Dead reckoning part 1
Ghost protocol
Rogue nation
3
2
1I rewatched Fallout as I was going to see Dead Reckoning the next day at the cinema, after that I got a bit carried away. Dead Reckoning is not the best - combination of dubious AI theme bad guy and being a part 1 of 2 it lacks narrative clout. Mission Impossible 2 is absolutely the worst, as much as I love John woo, it’s a howling stinker. I had completely forgotten Phillip Seymour Hoffman was in 3 and was over the moon when he came on screen. Number 1 has some dubious moments but with Brian De Palma in the director’s chair it has a bunch of excellent touches. Fallout is just a top quality action movie, and Henry Cavill hams it up beautifully. Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation are solid middle ground stuff, but Jeremy Renner has an annoying face so they get marked down for him being there. Tbh they all sort of blur into one as they’re pretty much the same film but with the volume turned up as they go along. Except number 2 - that one stands out by virtue of how dreadful it is.
All in all, probably not the most edifying week’s viewing, and I am completely earwormed by the MI theme tune now. Was it worth it? Probably not.
Watching Conan the Barbarian now for a change of scene.

Watching Conan the Barbarian now for a change of scene.
You... needed a testosterone injection after all that girlie man stuff?

Probably not.
You had me until here.
Watching Conan the Barbarian now for a change of scene.
Then you had me again.

I might do them all right now because I'm clinically unable to concentrate on doing any fucking work at all.

4 onwards would be much more enjoyable IMO, watching 1-3 before those is like doing the Die Hard series backwards.
Speaking of i watched Die Hard with a vengeance for the first time in well over 20 years and think it's held up pretty well. Maybe it's just fatigue of seeing the same guy shouting over and over again but SLJ was a lot more likeable back then. I'd also forgotten about the psychologist who pops up to explain why things are happening from time to time and now cannot un-see him when certain forumongers pop up with nuggets of information in every thread.

I liked it a lot.
Remember seeing it in the cinema when it came out but not having seen a trailer. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
Need to see it again really.
