  • Really sorry to see this and hope your dog has no lasting damage. As a new puppy owner in SE London my concerns on this subject are real. How did you 'win' the fight? Did the dog's owner help/apologise?

  • Bloody hell, hope you are both doing ok. I saw something that looked like a bully today and a Rottweiler in quick succession and I don't think I would have come out on top with either of them.

  • I read loads of comments on insta from people saying “it’s the owners, not the breed” but it’s called the Bully XL, FFS, not the cuddly love dog. Defo bread to be as threatening and big as possible.

Also discovered the 4 breeds banned in the UK includes one called the “Doggo Argentino” which did make me lol.

  • Had the same reaction re dogo, then I googled the breed. Most humans wouldn’t win against a fully grown one.

  • I got my hand through its collar and twisted so hard I couldn’t feel my fingers properly two hours later. I had to use most of my weight to hold it down and stop it shaking Otto and breaking his neck. I had my arm locked out so couldn’t land a punch with the other fist, I managed to start kneeing it in the stomach. This all could have been 10 seconds it could have been a minute before it released him. We moved about 3meters across the road wrestling.
As soon as she let Otto go he jumped back in and bit the attacker.

If anyone ever says to you to just stick a finger up a fighting dogs bum good luck, you are fairly focused on the bitey end .

  • Owner described this as a Staffie mongrel cross to the police, it’s the size of a Labrador

  • I'm going for the eyeballs

  • Christ. Bet the owner was a right plonker

  • Sounds horrific. HTFU, Otto. What did the owner say, if anything?

  • Looks like it plays front row for the springboks.

  • The dog was roaming free, the owners mate turned up first followed a lot later by the owner. Both were drunk and had obvious signs of long term addiction issues.
They tried to take the dog away and tried threatening me, I hit him, they then went through begging/offering to pay for a vet(£1106) etc.
I called the Police who were quick but said it was a case of property damage unless humans were damaged. My knees were shredded but that didn’t count.
The owner knew she shouldn’t be let out and had attacked before.

There was a kids sport’s competition thing going on 40meters away.

  • (Not very cheery) question for the legal minds here: if a dog were to be set upon someone with the express intention of killing someone - and did so - how would/could the owner be charged? I ask as the articles I've seen all state charges were under the Dangerous Dogs Act, which obv has shorter sentences than homicide. I know those weren't legally viewed as intentional and I imagine intent would be very hard to prove?

Article first appeared on Ed West’s substack, the Wrong Side of History

  • I believe if it can be shown murder was intended then a murder conviction is possible, what the method was is something else.

The dangerous dog act is more for 'I've got a lovely dog, wouldn't hurt a fly' where the owner didn't intend someone to be harmed.

  • Sadly (certain) dogs have become weapons after clampdown on firearms and then knives.

There is also a type of person who 'needs' a status dog to reinforce their persona (cunt).

  • Cheers, that's what I'd figured. Vanishingly small chance of it happening, I sh'ink.

  • The wiki page suggests they can be used as guide dogs for the blind!! 50kg of fighting dog bred for hunting pumas amongst other things doesn't strike me as good guide dog material.

  • @dibble sorry to read that, hope you're both ok.

I tend to stay out of these things as I'm not much good at internet squabbles but there's some really unpleasant unhelpful things been said here by people that don't appear to know much on the subject. I understand the feelings around bully xls ATM but at least try and show some of the same restraint other complex stuff gets on here and refrain from saying horrible, nasty, fighting etc.

  • “it’s the owners, not the breed” but it’s called the Bully XL, FFS, not the cuddly love dog.

There's an interesting question over whether you can separate out the two. A key point, most of these dipshits miss is whether the owners have the strength to control their dog. As Dibble's horrific story shows - even a really motivated individual can struggle to control a strong dog on a mission.

All that said. I think there is a slight arbitrariness to which dogs are prohibited. You also have some dogs which have been bread to be more docile than they would have been. German Shepherds as an e.g. - I'm sure I recall reading that the dogs you'd have had say in the 50s would have been more aggressive than one purchased today. Guard dogs I assume would be more inclined to attack humans, whereas fighting dogs were bread to kill other dogs and similar sized prey and be subservient to humans.

  • A key point, most of these dipshits miss is whether the owners have the strength to control their dog

Yes seen a bloke locally walking a cane corso, absolute unit of a dog but the other day I assume it was his wife walking it who likely weighs the same or less than the dog and she clearly couldn't control it on a walk, zero hope if it decided to chase something,I would get zero pleasure from walking a dog as big and stronger than me

  • RSPCA recent called for bans on dangerous breeds to be removed and were supported by a bunch of other animal welfare groups
    https://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaign/bsl

  • This is really shocking, sorry you both had to endure such an horrific experience.

    Heal up soon Otto

  • You guys wanna know some fun conspiracy stuff. There's a legit pro Pitbull lobby, started by a Satanist cult with ties to L Ron Hubbard
