He really was. First time I met him he pretended to kick off at me because I was watching his little dog Wilma hump her bed. Accused me of being a dog voyeur in a room full of strangers. But not in an arsehole way, in a beautifully funny and gentle way. There are very few people who can pull that off and he did it effortlessly with his every waking breath.

Brian McBride from Stars of the Lid. The Tired Sounds and Their Refinement of the Decline are two of the best ambient albums ever, certainly helped me get through some tougher times.

Oh blimey, only 53. I regret not having gone to see them play the Barbican Hall in 2018. Their albums (apart from per aspera ad astra) are all masterpieces.
