It’s really easy if you can use the ‘quick start’ method. Have iCloud backup. Bring the phones together. let them do other thing. New phone is exactly like old phone. You do have to set up security things again like touch/Face ID, and anything in Apple Pay.

Speaking from experience this doesn't work so smoothly if the old phone isn't capable of running the latest version of iOS; make sure to at least update both devices as good as you can @Tadpole.
Also as mentioned before, some things don't store all the things locally on your device (like whatsapp), so ideally do backups of stuff.
Mail accounts didn't sync properly as well last time I moved to a new iPhone, so be sure to have all your account details on hand as well 👍
Sorry I'm an idiot and I've got an iphone question that I hope the hove mind of LFGSS can help with.
I've got an old 2016 SE and it's dying on its ass. Battery life is now laughable as is the memory. If I buy a used 2022 SE, how easy is it to transfer everything over? Not just the apps, I want to transfer over all my Whatsap conversations etc too. Would they get lost?
Thanks.
