  • Opinel, will float as well! Not sure about colour, but nail varnish in virulent tones has been invented.

  • ^^ opinel outdoor a good shout too.

  • Cheers both! Liking the look of the peasant especially as it comes pre-made in “find in bottom of river or twilight river bank” colours and I can put a string around the tang.

Any idea if the bigger Svord is uk carry legal- website seems to suggest 7.5cm? Not absolutely essential as I’d have a decent reason for having it on me but if it makes life easier I’d rather go for that.

  • the Hennie website has a function where you can search for UK legal knives, made by Svord, or any other manufacturer.

  • yeah, was just confused as the svord site said the blade on the big one was 3 inches but read on the gov site that its the cutting edge length.

  • The Hennie site says that the big one is uk legal as well. I can't have an EDC knife because I always fly with hand luggage, and I lost my favourite SAK that way.

  • Odd one....

Been going through the SAK WIKI, trying to find an 'ideal' SAK to replace my daily.

I've had a Wenger SAK since maybe 2011? I bought it in an army surplus and I specifically remember they provided it in the wrong box because it was the only one to hand having lost the original. Man I love that knife, the smaller 84mm vs 91mm etc.

Years later the watchmaker Walsh one was stolen on a cycle trip and replaced. One of the classics for my 30th. Eventually the Swiss Champ with missing magnifier, too bulky for daily use.

Anyway. My Wenger is the most-carried, but I don't need the saw.

Looking online eventually I have found what model it is, it's a S52 but without locking blade. I can't be the only person with this one, but searching other forums it seems very rare to have a non-locking S52.

Shame mine is so beat up with missing bits from the scales being used as a hammer.

  • The ideal SAK is an Alox Waiter, with scissors and a second small blade. Sadly this does not exist.

  • A while ago, I posted this:

Two-Day "Forge a Kitchen Knife" Workshop

I bought it for my brother for his birthday, and he made this:

Definitely worth the money, I reckon.

  • This is what I settled on which is pretty close:

Also has tweezers, mini screwdriver and a pen. Available in lots of colours but not Alox though.

  • Delemont (ex-Wenger products) are your only option if you want scissors in a pocket knife (rather than a keychain knife) smaller than the 91mm range - but the options are limited, particularly if you want pliers. I think the S52 is discontinued.

How about a Deluxe Tinker? It's a bit bigger, but I think has all the things you're looking for. If you need a corkscrew it's a relatively easy swap for the Phillips driver on the reverse.

  • That’s like a smaller version of the Climber, which I’m in the process of returning. The one I got felt absolutely awful.

All the edges on modern SAKs are naff, like they haven’t been finished at all. The one I’m sending back seemed to have loads of casting marks on all the metal as well. Even with better oil the hinges felt shit too. I know things are made to a cost but it wasn’t good.

Yea I was thinking the deluxe Tinker and guess maybe I’m at the point of needing to DIY a custom setup. I love the pliers but don’t need a saw. I prefer a corkscrew even though a posi is probably more useful IRL.

Ordered a Mountaineer instead, but probably the same complaints.

But yea, the Delemont collection seems to be the way forward, but ehh.

  • Not sure if you bought yet but Boker Plus Atlas might meet most of your needs. Not hi-viz though.

  • Can't say I've particularly noticed the quality but it isn't something I use everyday.

  • On one hand I wanted to suggest it's a Victorinox vs Wenger thing... but every Victorinox I've handled has had a relatively fair build.

Previously the edges have felt okay and the mechanics worked fine. I know that over years edges will soften, so my old Wenger that gets forever grazed in the pocket and bag is an unfair comparison.

Swiss Champ felt a lot better out the box and that was a couple of years ago, likely old stock when I got it. The Walsh isn't comparable. Wherever the seldom used or seen classic (my 30th birthday present one) I don't remember having any rough edges.

Something about that Climber felt all wrong. The metal had badly finished edges, and the scales too. It felt cheap and nasty. This happened as well with a large-size Picnic, where I painstakingly sanded all the edges to make it feel less distracting in the hand.

  • Does anyone do a drawer knife holder, like this IKEA one but standalone (and not quite so cheap)

  • Ah, thanks, but don't need any knives with it. Should have specified 😅

  • They have them too, sorry wrong link in the first one: https://eu.josephjoseph.com/products/drawerstore-compact-knife-organiser-grey
They do a bamboo one too.

  • I should have looked harder, ta!

  • Wusthof too. I have the small one, it's worked well for me for the last 3 years or so.

  • £4 so would have been rude not to try... looks & feels ok not tried cutting owt yet.
