Ace, thanks for the input.

How do people like the Ipod (Pro) for editing vs a laptop / Macbook?
Am a fan of editing on an iPad (mini) with the stylus and then finishing on PC when warranted. Tend to travel with the mini, offloading from the camera on the move and doing those early culls and first edits, then sync it all up when home (Lightroom CC).
Not a professional, ymmv, etc.

Is there any way to use external memory HDD/SDD with an iPad or is it just Cloud?

I’m a bit pissed off that I rented the Fuji 8-16mm for the weekend and got screwed by both the weather and family commitments so only got to play with it for half an hour yesterday evening. Full fish eye was very estate agenty in my amateur hands.

With Lightroom specifically? Not really. You could export things straight to the external drive and then delete them, if you wanted to keep the iPad storage clear. Or there’s an Adobe app you can use to download your Lightroom library to an external drive attached to a PC, if it’s the backup you’re after. I don’t know how it is with all the possible photo editing apps out there, but my general experience has been that you have to import things to the iPad app and work on them locally, but you can export them wherever you want after that.

My clunky method is currently using my work MacBook, create a separate user for LRC and then storing all my pics on an external hard drive. Would happily go iPad but was worried I would clog it up as I can’t see an obvious way to backup and store.

I pay the adobe subscription so all my photos are in the cloud, which stops my iPad from getting clogged up. And then I use Adobe’s cloud downloader to back them all up to an external HDD using my PC.
If you don’t want to pay for the cloud then I can’t see an alternative to exporting everything to HDD and then deleting it from the iPad - which would work, but would be less automatic.

Thanks, I'm keen on the X-T2 but prices seem to be closer to £450, at least on eBay anyway. I'll keep looking. If anyone on here has an X-T2 for sale, drop me a line

Yeah you’re right, prices have gone up since I last checked. X100V’s gone mad!

All Fuji prices are insane. I just picked up an X-E4 for cheap but looks like I could flip it for more than they cost new!
Apparently it is something to do with the tiktoks, whatever that is.

Jesus, people asking £1200 for an X100-F!

Maybe a good time to sell all the Fuji gear and change to the Q3 as my one and only camera.
Fuji X-H2 / 50-140 / 80mm / 23mm 1.4 WR and a 33 1.4 WR should get me started towards the Q3.

I pay the adobe subscription...
I pay for the £10pm 'photography' package but it only has 20GB cloud storage and I've got a spare 5TB HDD. I'll have to investigate how much of a dent it will be to increase because of the current faff factor. Thanks for replying though.
Edit: OK, it's £20pm for an extra 1TB, doable.

Best sub £200 tripod? For stills, not video.

I picked up a carbon fibre Benro Mefoto Roadtrip PRO for £130 on sale a while back and have been happy with it so far - it's like a weird swiss army tripod with loads of features I'll never use, but it's still quite light and seems to work well so far. It packs small enough that I can get it in my hiking bag or cabin luggage.
I also liked how it's got a second panorama adjustment thing above the ball head, so you can level things off and not lose that level while turning the camera.

I bought my X100S in 2019 for £400, some are going for 5-600 on eBay! Mental.

I paid £400 for my X100-F in 2020 with only 1500 shots on the counter. Even more of a bargain now!

Very kind offer but sadly I'm no longer part of the South London massive. Also was looking to blow the cash quick before we disappear on holiday but noted on the model refs. Someone else had recommended the Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ2 ball head so will see what deals are about.
@jgadd Cheers, will have a look at those.

I’m thinking of switching from A6100 to E-P7, partly for IBIS, partly for feels. Opinions on camera choice, format change? Mostly walk around, vacation snaps, every dayish use. I value small size in cameras and lens combos, have owned Ricoh GR 2, couldn’t get on with the 28mm FOV. Still nervous about dust sensor issues in the new GR3X. Miss the GXR, got some favourites with that one but absolutely useless in low light.

Technical people, a quick question. If you plug in an external GPU into your laptop, does it do Lightroom (and Premiere Pro) quicker/better?
-
• #3673
Hm, no strong opinions on the switch from aps-c to mft? I'll do it, I swear...
-
• #3674
I thought the gxr sensors were aps-c?
I’ve used a few of the GRD, GX and GRs. I’ve never used a GXR and I’m not really sure how/where it fits-in or how the sensor compares.
The low light performance of the GRD (and GX200) was awful, even with the f1.9 lens. The GRs with those bigger sensors are much, much better.
-
• #3675
Yep, the GXR was aps-c also - to be clear, the Ricoh GXR. Those were the ones with the lens and sensor in one unit.
I have defaulted to doing most of my editing on Lightroom CC on my iPad Pro because it’s a lot easier than doing it on a PC for ad hoc edits. Using a touch screen is much quicker and more intuitive for individual photos, and the performance/battery life is better than on my (aging) surface pro for this specific application.
It’s mostly great, although I sometimes do find that there’s functionality that is PC only. I think if I needed to do big batch edits, wanted to use keyboard shortcuts or an editing deck, or if I had a preference for one-and-done software purchases over app subscriptions I would just stick to a computer.
