  • Anyone used the DCR professional disc hubset?

  • Kinlin xr31t rims, where’s best to buy from?

  • Spa Cycles surely?

  • Condor are selling the formula hubs, same. as on one 36 hole in black or silver for £15. IMO there is no better cheap hub https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/hubs/products/condor-uno-front-track-hub?variant=36248074250

    The rear a 32 fixed/fixed hub is £40 and only in a 32.

There are 2 cheap 700 rims, for disc brakes too https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/rims/products/condor-uno-deep-v-rim?variant=36248080522 at £8 as Im thinking to buy a few with the hubs to teach people wheel building

  • I hadn’t even started to look tbh, just asked her because I’m lazy.

  • formula hubs, same. as on one

Not strictly true, but Formula are certainly just as good as the Novatec type hubs Joy Industrial Co.Ltd. made for On-One

  • I think I might know the answer, but is this rim beyond truing? I wouldn't mind it not being perfect of course, it's mostly on commuting duty but would want it to be safe (strong) enough for off road use, too.

  • Is that before you've attempted to true it? As long as there are no dents in it, I've seen much worse pulled back into shape. I'd probably slacken it right off to see the natural shape of the rim before committing, but 25mm TIR in the axial direction and 10mm TIR radial is within the bounds of being pulled into a true circle without unacceptable tension variation.

  • Yes, this pre any tinkering.

I tried loosening everything then attempting to pull the spokes back to true, but seems the tension required is just too high for this rim. I don't think the straight pull spokes help either - one of the nipples was quite seized and has rounded off the square hole it sits in. I also noticed the join is no longer flush, so new hub and rim it is!

  • I've never built a wheelset, if I wanted to, and am somewhat mechanically minded, is a course worthwhile or just a few hours reading/ watching videos?

  • just a few hours reading/ watching videos?

Read a book instead, it will tell you how a wheel works, knowledge you can apply by understanding rather than imitation

  • Right, Roger Musson's and Jobst Brandt's are the ones called out a lot

Edit: ah you've linked the Brandt book

  • These look just like the superstar components v6 hubs which I have a set of. Nice high engagement at the rear and loud but not Hope levels. Front is front is front. Lots of endcap choices, though I'm not sure the company is expecting to live on.

  • Do you mean Superstar? Their stock and product range has been dwindling for a while. Are they slowly becoming extinct, or just focusing on their contract CNC manufacturing more than consumer bike parts?

  • I'm planning an Omnium Cargo build, and looking at hubs for the wheel build. I'm not going to use this bike for commercial heavy duty hauling, but rather carrying my kid (and maybe even a second kid at some point) + his bike + camping stuff around.

Dimensions are 15x100 and 12x142. I'm looking at

    1. Shimano MT400
    2. Shimano SLX

Sitting at the Alivio level the MT400 are obviously way cheaper than SLX, but they have steel axles where the SLX have aluminium axles. Is this something that matters in a build like this that will carry heavier loads than the average mtb?

  • Anyone know of a pair of 650b classic box section rims for sale anywhere?
Trying to find 2x pacenti brevet 28h and they’re out of stock everywhere I look

    (Rim brake rims)

  • Any recommendations for 26" rims?

    1. rim brake
    2. favouring 32h
    3. around 21mm ish inner
    4. hopefully below 550gr
    5. preferably black but silver would work too
    6. below £50 each

  • Kinlin mld

  • 20mm internal

  • Cheers, didn't know about them!

  • Looking for someone SE based with wheel building experience. I have just laced up a road wheel after having stolen a few spokes from it over the years for other wheels, and now this one needs a bit more attention than what I can get away with by just truing the wheel in situ in the frame!

  • If you want it rebuilding, then try Arup.

  • Can anyone tell me how are shimano hubs so cheap?

  • They make a lot of them and have done so for a long time.
