Just make cars have geofenced speed restrictions like hire escooters
-
• #15278
They had plans or at least talked about doing this with buses in London. Wonder why it never happened and why we still have shit timetables at bus stops.
The "bus wankers" are TFL for not implementing this...

The fact this sentence even exists is proof that cars are sainted and can do no wrong in this world. Carblind arseholes.
Fucking geofenced scooters but cars... do what the fuck you want.

A self adhesive number 2?

would be good to have buses put a flag on their cctv every time they sharply accelerate before coming to a full stop to be reviewed to see just how badly then nearly fucked up a cyclist trying to overtake before pulling up to a bus stop.

Surely that's part of the training. Seen it in literally every country I've ever ridden a bike in. Here, if i don't get almost crushed by a bus on every road ride I'd be surprised.
-
• #15283
To drive like you own the road as you aren't going to get sacked because of the bus driver shortage?

disable the motor unless it's pedal assisted

On the subject of traffic calming, there’s a notorious stretch of road near me that seems to 1) suspend all common sense and decency from 4 wheeled road users, and 2) attract assholes, boy racers and unapologetic fools. Over half a mile there’s 5 islands, a zebra crossing and 8 sets of road bumps, all useless at getting people to drive more slowly and carefully.
The ones I especially hate are the road humps that have spaces between them, presumably so cyclists can go through? Nah, all it does is encourage the metal wrapped cnut driving beside or opposite me, doing 40 in a 20, to swerve into my path just so they don’t have to slow down.
Stupid useless infrastructure.

road humps that have spaces between them
For emergency services to pass over without catapulting a dying patient into the air I think.
-
• #15287
Did consider that, but then what’s the logic? If ambulances don’t have to slow down then other similar sized vehicles won’t either, and given the frustum shape most vehicles will aim to pass square over it as fast as they can, rather than slow down. Why not just make the device lower but take up the whole lane? I’m sure there’s a logic to it, but does the good outweigh the bad?
-
• #15288
I imagine the thought was emergency vehicles will often be occupying the middle of the road already whereas regular vehicles will be in lane and have to swerve to take advantage of the dips. The scope of human cuntery was likely underestimated

I think ambulances are wider than the average van, certainly more than cars
-
• #15291
The NHS’ specs for ambulances are online somewhere. The box overhang is measured in mm and can vary, but the base vehicle is usually a truck or pickup frame (eg Fiat Ducato is a popular choice).

Buses are now speed limited, or at least some of them have a sticker on the back saying they are.
How strict it is who knows.
-
• #15293
Have you not seen the monster track width of some of the cunt-piloted SUV abominations on the roads these days?
-
• #15294
Or just get a Citroen DS/CX/BX/Xantia/c5 job jobed
-
• #15295
I could drive over those road humps with spaces in between without slowing in my 2001 1.1i Citroen Saxo. At least the ones near me I could. You don't need some epic wankpanzer to be able to do it.

They put some in near me that my Suzuki Alto fit over without touching!

The problem with average speed cameras is their effectiveness in urban areas with a high density of roads, and complexity of vehicle paths between them, is limited
The 40mph limit being enforced by average speed cameras on the A10 between Enfield and the M25 has made it much much calmer. Far fewer people driving like loons.
Sadly, we still get people racing up and down the rest of the A10 whenever there's a car meet in the retail park's carpark. Good luck getting to sleep before 1am on those nights.

My workshop neighbours son smashed up his fire breathing Seat in a tescos carpark somewhere on the A10 last week taking out another boy racer wagon along with it.
So that’s 2 less dickhead mobiles on the road at least.
21 years old and it’s his 3rd write-off apparently. -
