Thanks. Refurb 6a looks like a decent option for about £200 less than a new 7a.
I'm not fussed about wireless charging. Cables have worked ok for me for the last 4 decades.

I'm not fussed about automotive power. Horses have worked ok for me for the last 4 millennia.

Same. Don't see the point.
I did quite like my Sony's magnetic clip charging for when it was hanging on the aerobars but that phone is long gone.

it's probably not as much of an issue since USB-C, but i've had several phones in the past become unusable purely because of the charging port going kaput.
anyway #fuckcables

I dropped a Blackberry once that bent the mini-USB and my old XCover had a micro-USB die, but it did a lot of ultra racing with it (wet, etc). Still isn't isn't enough for me to piss about with cordless charging stuff.
I do like Bluetooth for work headset but still use cable. But I can't afford the battery limitations with it generally so I use a USBC to headphone adapter.

The wireless chargers need wires going to them still, but I much prefer having it for my phone, nice to just whack it on the charger and not compact the shit in the charger port even further.

I don't use wireless charging as my phone case has some metal disc to attach to a car mount.
I do have to pick all of the crap out of the USB port with a needle every few months though.

Don't shit in your charge ports. They'll last longer.

I genuinely ponder about getting some sort of usb c male cap to block the charging port and prevent pocket fluff getting stuck.

good idea! bit of sugru maybe?

discovered that there are still new Pixel 6a in stock for £300, so ordered one of those. I think my 5 was £500 two years ago, so £300 for 6a seems quite decent.

Yeah, I think I paid £280 a few weeks ago

I'm in an Airbnb, and there is a QR code to connect to the WiFi. My Samsung android phone connects seamlessly from the QR code. My kids' Samsung phones just stare blankly at the QR code and refuse to do anything. Any ideas?
-
• #22644
Can you use your phone to read the url the qr code maps to then type that into other devices?
-
• #22645
Yeah, some camera apps like Samsungs don't do QR. I used to have an app installed to read them, which I obviously can't remember the name of. It was written by a Google guy but not Google app.
You could try installing Google Lens.
Found the one I used to use: zxing

'ello. Total novice here. Finally bought a new phone, new pixel 6a as per budget recommendation here I believe. The data/4g keeps dropping out. Usually fine after restarting but annoying - no network issues I'm aware of. Any ideas?

• #22648
Is it connecting to your wifi instead :)
-
• #22649
Errr, yes - old phone was either or though. And also dropping out when no wifi available... I think
My thoughts too.
