I just read this now.
I have had the same sense of smelling cigarettes. It went away over several months after I had covid. I can’t say if it was causal or coincidence but I have never had it before. -
• #27353
So weird. It took a good couple of months to go away fully!

Yup, it’s whacked both me and my wife this week. Full on nasty flu systems plus weird joint pain (for me) and loss of smell (for her). Feels proper
-

Hope you’re both feeling a bit better now!

Thanks! Both in the clear now and main symptoms all gone, I’m just left with some weird vertigo type feelings. Main trigger is driving, of all things, so not feeling especially safe to take the car out right now. Cycling is thankfully fine!

There's a new strain of Omicron that's taken over, called Eris.

Im pretty sure 70% of my office has this right now!
-
• #27359
It is rife in the hospital my wife works at.
-
• #27361
Over 700k confirmed cases in the UK, it’s probably loads more than that.
Pretty nuts it’s still spiking massively almost 4 years later.

I have multiple colleagues off work sick, gad not this again
-
• #27363
Both the mrs and myself down with it. Testing negative but wheezing and coughing like nothing before. On the bright side I’ve lost 6kg.

What is this nonsense now about denying vaccines to under 65 year olds now? Shouldn't production have ramped up enough by now to be able to offer it to anyone who wants to pay for it themself like the flu vaccine?
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/aug/08/england-to-deny-covid-and-flu-jabs-to-under-65s-amid-fears-for-nhs-this-winter -
• #27365
I hope that they at least offer an opportunity to pay for the COVID vaccine if you are no longer eligible for a freebie.
-
• #27366
No, you can't get it even if you want to pay for it.
-
• #27367
I find this so weird. Is it still due to overall global shortage (ie still trying to get first vaccines to developing countries)? I can't see how there wouldn't be massive demand to privately pay for it.

Are we at the stage where its just endemic like flu? Super transmissable but now very unlikely to kill it's host which seems to be most viruses mission statement
-
• #27369
It is the long covid risk that I think may not be comparable to flu.
Unless "long flu" is far more common than we think, as people with auto-immune diseases were often told they weren't ill/it's all in their head/etc.
Just went to get some tests as we are going on holiday, just to reduce the risk of giving it to others. Sold out in our local area... the sales person at Boots told me everybody is getting sick/getting tests.
Ah well, roll on round nr3...

we managed to get a bunch off Amazon for a lot less than in Boots/Superdrug

Tx!
I will try town tomorrow, perhaps the "gold" tests at M&S (contain gold, no joke) will still be there. Have to go there anyway to get some presents.
And perhaps pick up covid ha.

Me and Mrs EB both down with it. Definitely not as bad as last year, but still pretty shitty. Took me a few days of feeling rough before I tested positive, same as last time.
-
• #27373
How do you know you have 'it'? Other viral infections continue to be available.
-
• #27374
Tests?
-
• #27375
People are testing negative but declaring they have it.
I had a shitty likely-viral infection of some sort but was negative. It might have been Covid but I don't know. I seem to be back in pre-pandemic take a paracetamol and carry on mode.
she like suffering just like you!
