Do they do this to enable people to get off without being swarmed at the doors?
-
• #22728
No because you get on at the front and off at the back doors and they sometimes drive a little past everyone that's waiting so they're actually closer to the doors that people are disembarking from.

Sad to say I find it easier to use mobile on speakerphone & like this if out & about on feet & not got a shirt pocket to secure phone in whilst I talk/listen, or functioning earbuds.
Anyway, I hate phonecalls. We have keypads and messaging systems to avoid the need to speak to each other these days.

Only in London. Still not adopted in other cities, bizzarley.

Don't people hold their phones like that because they're using Bluetooth headphones that uses the phone's mic?
-
• #22732
Because they see people on the telly doing it. Apprentice especially.

It's true, my hate is very regionally specific.
-

I have to do this 😢 as my mic is shit.
Unless I have my headphones. In which case I use those.
On that note, anyone seen any deals on the 6a?

On street parking.
All the roads round me are having their drains cleaned so for the last month each one has had parking restrictions, the streets look so lovely when they're not rammed with a wall of cars.
I have a car, it's shit.

I always think this when you pass through a lovely village somewhere, Cotswolds or whatever. How nice they'd look if there wasn't 5000 cars parked everywhere.

I think the changing phone holding etiquette is really interesting and there are lots of factors.
But I think the key reason is that for a lot of people, video calling is now the default in all scenarios, so the phone tends to be held in front of the face. But then the earpiece is too quiet, so of course they default to speaker.
I've asked a couple of people recently in cafes who were using video and speaker if they have headphones, and they seemed surprised and confused. (Edit: and in one case, very annoyed to be interrupted while in a work meeting, but then they were in a library). It's pretty normal now I guess.

this. I recently enjoyed pointing out, to someone complaining about e-scooters littering the pavements, that parked cars were private property littering public space.

Is that not just to stop these people getting clouted with the wing mirror?

Putting mudguards back on my commuter in August
-
• #22742
Nah, new busses don't even have wing mirrors
-
• #22743
That's coz they knocked them all off on heads of people standing at bus stops.

I didn't take mine off since Wessex SR and Pendle and my bike hasn't even left the turbo. I fucking hate mudguards but laziness wins.

I never take them off of my commuter, this has paid dividends this summer!

If the mean streets of waltham forest and Newham look lovely then the cotswolds might scrub up nice.

I hate… the techbro cunts who call my phone to tell me my blockchain account has been blocked.
Slight issue with this scam attempt…

Grown ups that ride around with no hands but there are levels.
1: just riding no hands unless your under 10 at a push 12 you look like a twat. Over 40 this is unforgivable.
2: riding around busy city centre roads or cycle lanes no hands your a dangerous twat.
3: as above but on mobile phone even worse if texting your a really dangerous twat this is when I start shouting.
4: yet to be seen but as above with the person riding no hands holding their phone like a slice of pizza and/or face timing. This is guaranteed to result in a accident because I'll be causing it by riding straight into them. -

Many of the people doing it are used to doing similar for video calls.
But, generally, it's because it's not the normal way of doing it, and therefore some people think it's cool to be seen using your phone like this.
