Have recently bought ANC earbuds for similar reasons. Sony ones which are generally considered some of the best, and so relatively expensive...
... but have found them really poor at noise cancelling compared to my over-the ear Sony ANC headphones or passive earplugs. And also fiddly, need recharging in their case every few hours, prone to falling out and getting lost. Definitely not practical to use when lying down trying to sleep.
For passive earplugs, I would buy and experiment with a few different types. I have found silicon 'wax' ones the best personally, but they are completely airtight, so block out rather than attenuate noise. Can be used in bed. And they all need a bit of practice and getting used to.
Some people find earbuds/plugs really unpleasant to use, especially for long periods.

I can see from my emails that I applied for an EHIC in 2016. I have no memory of it, they may have sent it. Does anyone know how long they last? If it's 10 years it's worth me having a hunt for it, but if 5 years not so much. Should I just apply for a new GHIC?
Can anyone recommend travel insurance - Italy, no high risk activities, no underlying health conditions. Co-op do it with a slight members' discount.

They are valid for 5 years so get a new one.
I tend to buy travel insurance from Columbus Direct because the policy includes swimming in daft places. I'm yet to claim so don't know if they are any good when it counts.

Great, thanks. New GHIC app then.

I've previously used insureandgo with no complaints, although it was a few years ago and they've since been acquired.

If you scroll down on this page MSE has a cheap travel insurance finder for policies that meet or exceed their minimum cover levels:
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance/I've either used this or comparison sites before and we're currently with Admiral for European multi-trip which cost £21.38. We were previously with Virgin, so cheap doesn't have to mean someone you've never heard of.
Any meaningful insurance recommendation is going to be from someone who has claimed but big firms you've heard of are likely to be as safe a bet as anything.

Thank, just email them!

Ok more travel crowdsourcing - anyone traveled to Paris by coach recently? Are there still delays at the border?
I'm looking at booking an overnight coach which gets in at 6am to pick up a train from Gare du Nord to Italy at 7.30am. Is this utterly foolish? Are we likely to miss it due to traffic, border control etc.

Thinking of flipping a 6 bolt 130 OLN qr disc wheel in a 135 spaced frame using 5mm spacers and disc cog to run the bike fixed. Any idea what chainline will that give me?

Thinking of flipping a 6 bolt 130 OLN
Definitely flip it and buy a new 135mm hub, 130mm disc hubs are hens' teeth🙂
The chain line on a flipped rear hub is about 54mm, depending on which side you put the 5mm spacer add or subtract 2.5mm

VAT rules have to be confusing so that crooks can use them to extract money from the exchequer. They're not going to be able to make political donations if the politicians won't make laws to provide a source of illicit funds.
