I have this one because I prefer an upright position, pop to Decathlon and try a selection… https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/folding-dining-camping-chair/_/R-p-302890?mc=8575884

Have you tried one of these? They look daft but people love them. You can adjust the angle while you're sitting on it by pulling or loosening the straps. It's great. https://www.thermarest.com/ie/products/seats/trekker-chair/trekker-chair.html

I’ve got one of those, it’s ok but has its drawbacks. You’re sat on the floor for starters so unless everyone else is doing the same you’ll be kind of excluded. Also getting up and down off the floor really isn’t fun after the first ten times. And it’s a bit of a faff to set up. Better than no chair but I haven’t used mine in ten years.

All true. But if you're already packing an inflatable mat it's just about within the realm of cycle camping. Proper chairs seem like car camping gear to me.

Just as well you're in the 'camping' thread.......... Despite the first post in the thread, this is about camping camping, not bike touring or bikepacking.

this is about camping camping
I'm confused now. Is this strictly a car camping thread?

Hard to say if the original chair enquiry is about JB's personal definition of "camping camping" or some other type one might expect to find on a London based cycling forum. Guess we'll have to wait to find out!
I took a lightweight "camping" chair with me on a recent "bike camping" tour and despite my previous disdain it was an was essential part of the trip and not super bulky. Although I don't think it would be great for those looking for back relief :(

If looking at the UL end of the spectrum, reviews rate this (Big Agnes Skyline UL) as the most comfortable and on sale right now. If car camping, maybe not the best.
https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/3086996I'm tempted by the BA skyline stool, looks small enough to strap under the downtube for more casual trips but don't know if much better than a folding foam mat..

Does this thread then include or exclude festival camping?
Like, what tent is best? Or what are essential for festival camping you would never think of while other camping?

You're not talking about the full on bed meme? Might be overkill

wheelbarrow
Don't have a yard, live in a flat, not sure it's long term use.
Also, surely it's inherently unstable? This really the best? What about a 4 wheel yard trolley?

I'm camping next week. I'm in charge of a 'village' of about 100 people, without actually being in charge. I've got a dozen teenagers which are my responsibility (with 2 other adults), one of which has some fairly complicated medical needs. I'll have a daily 8am meeting with the other village not-heads and I will need to do some checking in of the teenagers when their evening activities finish around midnight. I wish I had a proper bed.

So you mean https://www.townfarmcamping.co.uk/?
Can anyone recommend a camping chair that offers decent lumber support and is generally good for your back if you suffer with back issues?
I am OK on weekend trips but my back really plays up on longer breaks (because of the chair not sleeping arrangements).
