The Austere buckle is a thing of beauty- but it really poses the question as to why it’s matched to such a cheap feeling length of webbing. The quality of the buckle deserves a much nicer and more detailed strap, I think anyway.
The slot in the plate that mounts to the frame is wide enough to get the widest strap pictured in easily, so I have some slight concerns about the much narrower Voile strap staying in place- but it’s high friction rubber surface may provide sufficient grab that that is not an issue.
I think they use polyester webbing as although it feels cheaper than nylon, it stretches a lot less so it’s more durable in the long run. They do pride themselves on rigorous testing, so if you asked them i’m sure they’d have a very detailed answer.
