  • Can you turn down the pressure of the machine?

    Have you purged the group head?

    If you're still having trouble maybe try a puck screen.

  • In my experience, you only want to tamp down to the point where it feels "solid", without trying to force any additional compression. It's less than you might think. As I understand it, if you compress it too much then the water can't soak through evenly and builds up force in individual spots which forces open a channel.

    Also, as alluded to, make sure you don't knock the portafilter head off anything while loading it into the machine as that can cause a crack in the puck too.

  • Any recommendations for a filter machine?
    I've got a dripper but I just cba making one cup at a time.
    I've had a bean-to-cup machine for years but the coffee just tastes really bitter now, whatever I do
    So looking for a decent, consistently good filterer

  • Moccamaster or Sage Precision Brewer are popular.

  • If it's just the one cup at a time thing that's bothering you, you could always just go for a V60 server:

    That one (same one I've got) is 700ml but I think there's a 1l version also.

  • I go the exact opposite to what everyone recommends and tamp pretty hard (to achieve maximum compression, as beyond a certain point the grounds don’t compact any further) and just adjust the grind.

    Have used it once a day or sometimes twice a day for several years. Performs as new. Easy to clean. Faultless coffee.

    From getting a filter paper, measuring a dose, filling the trough, flicking the switch to having a cup of coffee is less than 2 minutes.

    The newer version has a different thermos/carafe which keeps it hotter for longer and can be screwed up tight to take somewhere with you.

  • Has anyone experience with Wacaco Nanopresso?
    Thinking about getting one for work.

    Already have an aeropress, but rarely use it (pretty much used it for longer drinks, inverted method)
    Wanting more espresso pulls for instant gratification (I know I can use the Aeropress for this too)

    Worth it for £50?

    Or is the Prismo Aeropress adapter any good? Half the price but not "pressurised"

  • Prismo won't do anything different than you can already do with the inverted method. The pressure to open the valve is less than 1 bar so its just flow control. But I do quite like mine for being able to put it flat on the counter/over a mug instead of inverted and flipping

  • I got a PCB in the group buy so fairly pain free. The github documentation is far from idiot proof but the info is all there. It forces you to work it out for yourself to some degree which is pretty fun. Took 3 evenings from start to finish. I've got the parts for integrated scales in the post.
