As the second banana in the above pic, I resent the sick burn that my bike was the second best option. The tea leafs clearly just couldn't handle the speed the double disc wheels so took the easier option

Alright, so touring on a Brompton: any experience to share?

I've got my (lightly modified) A Line, to which I've added a rear rack/mudguards and T Bag on the front. That's the luggage side of things sorted, but gearing and comfort are my remaining concerns. I've already switched out to wider bars with Ergon grips, but may go a bit more upright.

3 speed to 6 speed - is it worth it? The bike is altogether running rough after a year of all conditions commuting, so very open to overhauling it.

Consider brooks saddle, definitely make sure you have either low enough gearing for the hills or wide enough range; 44t 6 speed is popular.

Lovely, thanks - you're right, the stock saddle is a bit of a killer. Will keep an eye out for a cheapish BWR rear wheel on eBay for the 6 speed then, but for now might just stick a 36 or 38T on the front as a cheap stopgap.

Brooks, 44t and more (not less) gears. Regarding Ergon grips (GP1), it goes without saying to make sure they're angled suitably for your wrist. Learnt this the harder way after back to back days of many Brompton miles.

Ah yeah, should've said - already swapped the chainset out for a Spa XD2 with a 42T chainring. Took a while to get the chainline right (snapped a chain!) but works fine now, so I have the flexibility of a standard 110 BCD crank (unless I've missed something)

6 speed is where I'll probably head tbh, and will ponder on the Brooks

I also find the Charge Spoon very comfortable and a fraction of the weight of Brooks saddles.

I missed where you're based and sorry for the plug, but I have a 6 speed wheelset on sale in classifieds, but worn brake tracks and personally, I'd lace the hubs onto some new rims.

Anyone know if Brompton Junction in Covent Garden gives away or sells the cardboard boxes the bikes ship in? Tried to ring them and no answer.

Going to the Transport Museum on Saturday and looking at sending my bike to @sbbohr for a service so trying to kill two birds with one stone.

They usually have spare boxes you take have for free. Just need to pop in and ask.

Anybody got any mid rise bars they're looking to shift? If they're fitted to an SL6 would I need to lengthen the cables, or is there a bit of slack there to use?

If I bring the what I’m going to have to call stem with me to the UK over Christmas, or potentially post it back to the UK, who or where can I send it to get bottle bosses put in and a coat of paint?

M type cables, ignore what sjs cycles say as they have changed the description… this is h type cables.. obviously too long.

Is there a nice way to use an Ortlieb pannier on the front carrier block?

I'm currently commuting on a 90s MTB and would love to replace my pannier with the Ortlieb Vario PS. However, I plan on replacing that commuter with a Brompton when I am employed again. I don't think it'd be smart to spend almost 200€ for a backpack/pannier if I cannot use it when I do the switch.

It's hard to find detailed pictures online of the side of the carrier block that's attached to the bags, so I'm unsure how thick it is, how it works, etc...
What I currently have in mind is a metal frame that the Ortlieb could clip onto, and that would be sufficiently thin to stay permanently attached to the Ortlieb (even in backpack mode), not the Brompton. Of course, if I could find something like this off the shelf, it'd be great.

Using a rear rack would be the simplest solution, but I'm not a fan of the look, and I would love to build a WW-ish (at least weight-conscious) Brompton.
