I used light (hard) pencil without any problem. Paint is usually thick enough to mask the pencil lines. Thinned light coloured paint (with a small, pointy brush) for sketching works fine too. Rather easy to make corrections too.

Been away on Holiday for a couple of weeks, took my wee 6 x 4 pad and paints away.. did some quick paintings in the mornings while the kids where sleeping.. quick video of one.. camera only records 10 mins, so that's how long they take..

Got some gesso at the weekend, any idea how long it takes to dry? Will I need white sprit to clean the gesso off?

My opinion: it means you needed to be "off track". That is what I always say to myself...
I did some tweakings on my latest one. Still not happy with the result so more changes may come

My sister went to a screen printing workshop and made this for my birthday. Love it!
I threw it in the first frame I could find, but I think a black frame would be better.

I’ve started to pencil the outline on the canvas. Problem is I’ve used a rubber to remove some of the lines and now it’s a smudgy mess

Other than the whole head being tilted too far to the left. But…you live and learn.

We are always our strongest critics!!
It looks good me to me.
If it hasn't had wax added it shouldn't. The oil can still bleed through it and bind with the base. Before you paint you can brush it down so it's not got much residue. Maybe do a test?
Another option is single colour thinned under paint. You get a tonal base for you to build over with colour.
