  • Hey folks, I'm looking to pick out a nice steel gravel frame. Theres's allot out there but I'm looking for some help from some steel/gravel connoisseur's. I'm a fixed gear chap with less know how in the world of knobly tires so any advice would be much obliged, cheers.

  • budget?

  • Like six hundo or less second hand for frame

  • Cost a bit more than that, but Sour bike frames look nice. Purple Haze I think it’s called

  • Ah I’m pretty flexible on price, I’ll take a gander cheers

  • I was hassling them about a steel Bokeh for ages but they made this thing instead...

    Oof... over £2k.

  • If you like having your own gravity field, Surly Midnight Special. Love mine.

  • +1 for a Midnight Spesh. Preferred it to my Swiss Cross. Nice with its level top tube. I had Whisky forks on mine and 650b. Rode nice

  • If the size is right - the Zanconato in the classifieds is a steel steal

  • That's quite a lot and they are still ashamed to mention the weight.

  • +1 for the Midnight Special. I have just sold mine, but it was brilliant fun.

  • On-one Rujo

  • All City Gorilla Monsoon? I love mine and a second hand frame shouldn’t be too far out of your budget.

  • Yeah, I paid 1500 or so for my Resolution which everyone said was expensive. I think it's a great bike though. I now have MTBs so this drop-bar fat tyre thing is less appealing. I got my missus a Bokeh though because she doesn't care what a bike is made of.

  • At 899 new from Woods cyclery, the Brother Mehteh is looking like a bragain these days..

  • Or a Brother Kepler - I had a pink and blue faded v1 with rim brakes. A gravel bike before gravel bikes were invented

  • The thin ovalized top tube of the Fairlight secan makes that the steel gravel handsome award winner for me

  • +1 for the brother mehteh, absolutely love mine

  • This surprises me as nothing about the midnight special would make me suspect it would win vs. swiss cross! How come - did it ride better or was it more versatile / something else?

  • The Fairlight Secan is a super nice steel gravel frame. I love mine but seems like it is out of budget.
So I am going to put another vote in for a Mehteh. Great frame. The new fade paint job looks beautiful in person but let me also leave this stunner off a build here from @PhotonBelt.

  • Thats the first Meteth I have liked really

  • oh hello :) , thanks for the kind words!

@Frozone I am indeed very pleased with my mehteh, new ones have better forks with dynamo routing and light mount,

if you are patient there are some poping up on eBay from time to time at a decent price ✌️

  • There are a few discounted fairlight farans on their outlet store

I reckon they tick a lot of aesthetic steel gravel boxes. Here’s mine in road mode

  • Thats lovely, What's the difference between the 54R and 54T? Geometry looks v close.
