  • I'm not as fast as I once was but can occasionally trouble the front of a race out here in the shires. South West regional champion on a singlespeed with inner tubes last year.

@fredtc is probably much faster than I am nowadays, but we haven't raced for a bit.

  • Might move a pair of old mavic reflexes on if anyone's interested.

  • Hah, yeah, if folks do want to try tubs, I have a (rim brake) pair I need shot of.

  • Waves to 10%!

No I was just being overly mean, I'm sure tyre choice helps with placing but it's really the legs and tekkers isn't it

  • plus a fair amount of luck, at least in that particular race.

but yeah, part of racing is the obsessing over equipment, some do it to get a bit quicker. I've definitely plateaued (and coming down the other side) in terms of speed but still enjoy "designing" a bike that will allow me to be reasonably competitive, get me through muddy races on a single bike and not end up blowing all my salary on it.

  • Is it an own brand? Not really familiar with them. I’ll investigate further.

Generally is seems Crux and Inflite seem to be available occasionally secondhand in 60/61 but bit down given one how much they might cost and two when one will come up.

I’m not even able to get to the exciting tyre chat stage lol

  • It's definitely part of the wiggle , chain reaction family although I think the brand was originally French .
Own design rather than open mold and a slightly longer top tube to mimic MTB handling if I remember correctly.
I keep eyeing them up as a replacement for the tcx which is getting a bit old in the tooth

  • Ah ok. I’ll look at a geo chart. There’s loads of M and ML TCX about second hand.
I’m not a huge Giant fan but some of those look great!

  • I really like my TCX which I've had it for about 7 years now but the cost of a new frame is a bit prohibitive at the mo

  • (C)Ross is coming, 28th and 4th entered….sans bike still.

  • Ah thanks I’ll be on holiday so can’t make that.

  • Got in for the three peaks! first time in a while, and I haven't ridden a bike in anger in 6 months. panic training to commence very soon (mostly running, as I think I'll give it a go singlespeed this year).

Anyone able to tell me what the 38mm Vittoria Terreno Dries measure up as on a wide-ish rim?

  • I can do later. I’m out at the moment but will measure up when I’m home later today.

  • Thanks. Pretty sure they'll actually be 38mm, or wider. Limit is 35mm.

  • Without measuring them, I'm pretty certain the 33's were around 35mm on the rims I use. They've got an internal width of 20mm

  • yeah, I suppose it's a choice between 33 and 35mm then.

  • Check the ERTRO sizing on those Vittorias rather than the branding.

    The 33s are ETRTO 622x33

but the 35s are actually 622x37 and the 38s are 622x40!
IME, the "35s" on a 19mm rim will come up quite a bit wider than 35mm

  • I was literally about to post on another thread about this. I got some 35s and it turns out they are 622x37 on the side. What gives?

  • Rules this year (according to the STW article) is tyres marked up as 35mm or less. Don't seem concerned about 'actual width'.

  • "Ah yes, you see commissaire, these are not 2.8in tyres - they are in fact 28mm, as you can see from the completely unadulterated tyre markings which have definitely not had the '.' sharpied over..."

  • Thanks to @andyp s patience I finally can talk about tyres!!
So I have Schwable G-one bite 33mm on at the mo I’m guessing these are an ok all rounder to start with?

  • Boone ? Wonderful starter :)
