I once used one like this but I can't remember where I got it, probably ebay. Made by Tektro I expect.
Edit: yeah here it is. https://www.ebay.ch/itm/284047313717

If this doesn't fit my Focus fork, what other options do I have for dropping the cable stop to reduce judder?
We swapped to V-brakes, BR-R353, BR-R463 or BR-R573. Problem solved.

Well yeah, I could totally change the brakes but this is a beater so I was trying to do it on the cheap.
Because the brake hole is recessed, I guess most of these hanger adapters aren't going to fit it unless I add enough spacers to push it out past the lip and then use a massive bolt.
Mind you, that Dia Compe hanger is £17 and when a whole brake set is 25..

First two look fine to me. The only thing I can think is the bolt through the fork crown may be longer to accommodate a mudguard or the hieght being different to clear a mud guard.
Had judder on a set of cantis that was cured by cleaning the rims and pads with brake cleaner and a little marine grease on the straddle cable as mine was mis shappen. This was on an old set of Shimano brakes.

Halfords are selling the Clarks break set of 18 for everything. https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-parts/bike-brakes/clarks-v-brake-set-193402.html? Even free next day delivery

Wowsers. I'd rather re-use than buy new (says the guy that's already bought a new bracket that won't fit) but we'll see.

Understand. Seems the last two (bso) bikes that have had brake problems with that needed inner and outer cables replacing then the pads the Clarkes set was cheaper.
Then the brakes were this style https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brakes-Mountain-Replacement-Bicycle-Ferrules/dp/B08GHMSP51/ref=asc_df_B08GHMSP51/?

Comes complete with levers, outers, stainless steel inners brake cables, end caps, all bolts, and even new brake pads.
But they are all Clarke bits tho.

& @Overuser155208 reporting back: a M5 screw tap was the solution for now to repair the forks direct mount thread.

A kind forum friend is sending a "Tektro 926AL mini v" caliper over to try out.
From what I've read, the arm length of these is 80mm - do you think it would work?
-
• #4813
Yes, 926AL is the budget option, for people who can't afford Sora 😐The #tartmode Tektro option is TRP CX8. 4 which has the stiff C-channel arms like Shimano rather than the floppy angle iron of the 926AL.
-
• #4814
Sounds perfect for this then, since the braking is rat shit/borderline dangerous already.
What about that Tektro "power hanger" above?
-
• #4815
926AL has millions of satisfied customers. Since it has the shortest arms, the take up is shorter than any of the other road-V options, but then it gets a bit spongey compared with the stiffer brakes so the total lever travel ends up about the same by the time you're doing a stoppie

Will it clear the same size of tyre? I wanna jam the biggest tyres in this thing that I can fit.
(sidenote: I suspect the judder was worse than I remember because some muppet didn't do the headset up properly before riding to the bike shop)

Again, loads of people have taken the chatter out of their cantilevers with fork crown cable stops, but on your particular fork you're going to compromise the stiffness by spacing it forward to clear the rebate in the front of the crown. Since you aren't trying to clear huge tyres and mudguards, mini-V brakes will work and are the better option.

• #4818
Also the cheaper option in this case. Ok, I'll wait until I have a mini-v in my hot little hands and take that to the LBS to put them out of their misery. Spanks.

Would anyone know where I could get a replacement barrel adjuster screw for some Btwin rim brake calipers? It has snapped somehow so it's not easily possible to adjust the brakes.
-
• #4820
That looks like a Tektro R539, you could hunt about for spare parts or just buy this complete caliper on clearance at Ribble https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/tektro-r539-long-drop-calliper-brake-front/
-
• #4821
Ah, thanks for identifying the OEM that certainly makes things easier
-
• #4822
Think the adjuster is an M5 and the same on that style of Shimano/promax/miche as I have nicked them off promax and miche to fit to Shimano brakes.
-
• #4823
Have been thinking about this far too much.
Am thinking that this clip could improve my brakes but that could be that my straddle cable has become misshapen over time. So the pull isn't equal on either side. -

It's an enigma...
I found this in my parts bin. I've never owned an Enigma though!
Anyone know if it is a hanger for a model of Enigma?
I thought maybe it was off my old Kinesis 4S Disc but I don't have that bike to compare.
Actually the more I look at it, the more I think it's from the 4S...
