  • The 1.4 dsi is a bit sporty. And then there’s the 1.5 ivtec which is like 130bhp. But the latter is a lot newer and more expensive I think.

Plenty of the newer ones are >100bhp tho. I’m not massively familiar with the range. We’ve got a 10 plate 1.4 ivtec and it isn’t particularly sporty. But that might be to do with the aftermarket cat strangling the engine a bit.

  • Yaris of some sort?

Or knowing roughly where you live, whatever doesn't cost an arm and a leg to insure and that if something does happen such as nicked or hit and run that you can scrap without worrying.

MK2 golf it is then. You only live once...oh ulez :(

Get the panda then a roof box. Do you mean the MK1 panda (80s) or modern ish ones

How about a civic like fox has?

  • Only concours I be collecting... 😎

  • Get a mini and a roof box.

What do you need to transport?

  • The little Fiat has been put of action for a while. Gearbox, ignition timing, carburettor troubles, head gasket and some other woes. Now all sorted and driving better than ever. Half way home from London to Suffolk resting up at a campsite

  • Think you just need something like these:

  • Heehee. Probably the red thing. As doesn't have to handle diverting power to things like indicators and wipers

    3. Fiat
  • Cheers.

I guess being too wide for the bars doesn't matter as it'll be clamped(?)

And it just needs to be long enough for the threads, reach through the box and round the bars.

    these days

  • I have a Citroen Cactus 1.2 Puretech. It broke down on the M25. There was a sudden juddering and loss of power before the engine light came on and I managed to limp into an SOS bay. Called the RAC who sent a tech out who diagnosed a faulty coil pack on cylinder 1 and called for a low loader to take us back to Catford.
I ordered a replacement coil from ECP and while I was there figured it was worth picking up an ODBII reader.
I replaced the coil yesterday however the fault remains. The ODB scanner lists faults on coils 1 and 2 however swapping the coils from cylinder to cylinder doesn’t seem to make a difference and the scanner still lists cylinders 1 and 2.
Am I right in saying I should probably replace the plugs at the same time?

  • swap the plugs from cylinders 3 and 4 , if the fault remains on cylinder 1 and 2 start with a compression test

  • If it's one could per cylinder, the fact it's reading faults on both 1 and 2 at the same time sounds like a wiring fault to me.

  • @Fixedwheelnut @Brommers I should have mentioned it’s a 3 cylinder engine. I changed 2 plugs this afternoon (ECP gave me 1 wrong one but didn’t notice until I was home) but it’s not made any difference.
Did some deeper digging with the ODB scanner and found some additional errors which could explain things.

My FIL has passed on details of a mobile mechanic he’s used who’s going to come take a look as I’m running out of skill and time

  • These puretech engines can be problematic. Known for coil failures and plug failures. The spark plugs are also easy to break. Couple of more serious issues related to yours is debris fouling the oil pickup. I can remember exactly if your engine is timing belt or timing chain but the early oil bathed belts degrade and shed bits of rubber into the oil pickup.

Here's a long and involved thread on my French car forum that will shed some light if you can be bothered... Might be a similar cause

  • I've been out and about in the Mini over the last couple of weeks, and gradually adding more shiny bits.
On my birthday, having replaced the fuel level sender unit, we filled the fuel tank and took it for lunch in an excellent restaurant in a local village.

The Mini had 20 litres of 98 RON from Intermarché, whilst my wife and I had l'Œuf mollet et pané sur salade de lentille du Puy, followed by Pavé de bœuf Limousin et millefeuille de pommes de terre and for desert Fondant au chocolat et caramel beurre salé, all accompanied by a delicious bottle of 2019 Chateau Fleur d'Eymerits Lalande de Pomerol.
